Like the title says, should it not be the big 2.

Is Rory really good enough to be considered as being number 3 given his form....

Your thoughts

Form is temporary. Class is permanent.

Hes just won the Irish, but played poorly on a very tough course this week. Will certainly go into The Open as one of the 3 favourites. So, yes, it's big 3.

It's always a fluid measure isn't it. Fair point regarding Rory at the moment, can't argue against it. If he bombs at The Open then he certainly drops out of the group.

When all players are on form Rory is streets ahead of everyone

The guy has four majors to name in the last 5 years - plus a number of WGC. Both Day and Speith have to do it again for a second year or even third year to reach Rory

Agreed but it wasn't a top class field, some good players but not as good as the guys he is up against in the USA where it is apparent he is not able to cross the line

Disagree, how long will it take for him to be at his best ?

No one plays at their best all the time it's all about what you can do when you are playing and at the moment Rory can't get it together for 4 rounds.

He's crossed the line 4 times against the best opposition in the World. He's always been a confidence player, and when he does get going he'll destroy the field again.

Disagree with what exactly ?

He got it together to win a couple weeks back

Not dismissing that but he is a long way from being classed in the Big Three of late with no form at all so why class him in that way.

He has won more recently than both Day and Speith - not bad for someone with no form

Yes but with a poorer field than where the Big 2 play week in week out.

And in the memorial where both Spieth and McIlroy played Rory was a good ten shots clear of Speith ( only 2 weeks ago )

Spieths most recent win was no bigger than the Irish Open

I think the whole "big 3" is a bit contrived to be honest. They have a long way to go to emulate Palmer Nicklaus and player and there are several other players who could easily make the claim to be as good, or better.

If they find some consistency in the majors for the next few years then, maybe. But a bit premature for me at the moment.

But, yes, Rory is struggling in comparison to the other two at the moment.
