Golf. It’s not a fullfilling life.

Surely if he didn't like playing golf for huge amounts of money he could donate it to charities or even give up golf and go be a bin man or something where financial survivle is an everyday happening.

He didn't say that he didn't like playing golf for large prizes and he also acknowledged his good fortune in doing so.

He merely questioned how fulfilling he found it in the overall scheme of things.

Professional golf is a job, nothing more and nothing less.

To be fair, he was asked a question, he answered it honestly. He wasn't looking for sympathy.

I was taken by one aspect, you win a big tournament, 2 days later you are asked about the next one. Rinse and repeat. You don't get a chance to absorb the win, enjoy the moment. It's treadmill stuff, although obviously very well paid and largely fun. I don't think he should be condemned for speaking honestly.

Agree, but a lot of it is down to his choices, and as world number 1 he has the luxury to make lots of choices. E.g. moving straight from a major to the next tournament is his choice.

They're in Portrush this week and I'm pretty sure Lowry took time to enjoy the success of his major win. Likewise I feel Rory took time to absorb his Masters win.

And it’s his choice to continue playing. He’s earned enough to retire.

I'm struggling to see the point of him saying anything then.
Many people do a job thats a means to an end, and would love to do somehting else but for many reasons can't.
If he doesn't feel "fullfiled", do something else but don't use a press conference/interview to start whinging about it. He doesn't need the money now, lets be honest. :)

I get what Scottie was on about. Money can’t buy you love…someone once wrote - and it also can’t buy happiness and spiritual well-being. He has more than enough in the bank to quit the game and live the life with his family the life that he and they want - and no one would or should think the worse of him - for it is the pursuit of money that is the source of all sorts of ‘evil’ - not the having of it.

I think there is pressure on him to play each tournament, world no 1 etc, so he probably needs to manage his schedule better.

He was quite mellow in his comments, he absolutely wasn't looking for sympathy.

Yes I think this is key. He's put himself on the treadmill. Tiger was good at picking and choosing his events, building in gaps so he could focus on the events that mattered to him. Scottie has got to the position where he has the power to say no.

I get where he's coming from. I have a decent job which I really like. Pays good, no money problems. But that's just it, it's a job it enables me to have a good life, holidays, a decent car, make sure the grandkids are OK. My life starts when I clock off. My job gives me that good life but if it finished tomorrow that would be fine I'd still have my loved ones

Where in his comments was he whinging?

He stated that he was very fortunate to be doing what he does and to have the lifestyle it provides.

He merely questioned how fulfilling it was.

Perhaps then it's the "not fullfilling" I don't quite understand.
In the current World, I do think its a silly comment to make though.
He is in a very priveleged positiion

Privileged lol?. He's worked his a$$ off all his life and achieved something he has long aspired to...be the top of his game, I'd hardly call that a privileged position, I'd call it damn well deserved after years of struggle and determination.

Priveleged in that he doesnt need to work again, if he doesnt want to. I dont doubt he has worked hard, but millions work hard and dont get the financial chances and rewards he has. That is my point, nothing more :)

Lowry’s only just sobered up
