Just saw a tweet on twitter asking this question, so what the general views on the forum, what is the best course. Never to host our Open?

What about crossing the water for

Royal County Down

Trump International.........

Take your pick from most classic links courses in the UK. Saunton East is a favourite of mine.

3 excellent choices there although Trump is far from ready but maybe in years to come. Kingsbarns would be another excellent venue as it has decent spectator viewing.

Great mention, spectators would have a great view on every hole such is the real estate there. 7th tee would be a great vantage point.

Black tees and the rough grown up and Id bet money itd be harder than muirfield.

A mild zephyr and they all be struggling big time.

It certainly would be playing it how you played it last week  ;)

Meh. Im just glad I played ok on saturday, sunday was how I have been kicking it round recently. 32 points round my own place on saturday off the easy tees.. says it all.

Glashedy would be a great course for a big tournament although not sure even the black tees would make it long enough for the top pros, think they would need to put some new ones in.

Just checked and off the blacks it's 7220 yards, not sure how that compare to say Muirfield

Muirfield was shorter iirc. The swales and some of the bunkers on the Glashedy would be tough enough Id say. Pity there is zero infrastructure up there to hold a bigger comp, that said, maybe that is why it is such a great place to visit.
Golf, couple of hotels and a shop then plenty of pubs 5 mins down the road by taxi.

Muirfield was 7192 yards so no issue with length then.

And agree that part of the beauty of Ballyliffin is that it's so out the way and pretty inaccessible to the masses.

Great golf courses though and superb facilities, with the added bonus of great pints of stout
