The Belfry

I played few years back was a great experience my first big name course, we had a top day except my golf was awful but regulation par on 18 was a great way to finish.

Think there bookings maybe a bit slack offering societys £60 rate for brabazon at present.

As far as condition of the courses goes I think it's up there but yes some fairly bland holes amongst the 18 on the Brab.

Also prefer the Derby to the PGA. PGA too monotonous for me although I hear some changes were made last year or so, so perhaps it's improved.

Bar area - dress cose os smart formal - jeans are fine. Anyone can go in for a drink.

I went around this time last year and done the £99 for the derby and pga, 8 of us went, absolutely loved it. PGA course I thought was the better of the 2 but the derby is a nice enough course. PGA just made you think about near enough every tee shot, bunkers and water are in very difficult places and if you dont think about what clubs you are taking then you will struggle round it.

The moment we drove in I was in awe of the place just the size of the whole complex and walking round it and immediately seeing the the 10th hole on the brabazon was a delight. Hotel was more than enough for what you need, if it had a bed and shower in it then it does more than enough as you are there for the golf not the hotel rooms. We got there and had a walk round and the shop is just immense it is fitted out with lots of gear, I would recommend you leave your wallet in the car when you do this. We then went to the range and seeing the custom fit sections and everything was good and I loved it. Went in the pool after the round and it was nice to chill out. Food was excellent plenty of choice and the place looked superb. Have to remember this is only 1 of a few to have 3 courses running in it so there is plenty to see.

We all loved it that much we have booked to go Easter Friday and Saturday, Masters is also on so it will be Derby course then watch the Masters then play the Brabazon the next day, I cant wait.

To say anyones opinion is wrong ethan is bang out of order.

editted to add, that I think any trip is based on company you are with as well.

Having played the Brabazon, it doesn't come close to either St Pierre or the Forest of Arden. I think apart from the signature holes the remaining thirteen or so are very bland. Yes the condition is good but when your paying that amount of cash you'd expect it to be. It was good to tick of the "want to play" list but not one I'd rush to do again.

That's exactly how well all felt! Can't wait to go back especially when my game improves

Homer is that Marriot St Pierre near Chepstow? It's on my to do list this season,is it worth it as it's only 1/2 hr from my doorstep,I'd play midweek as well.

Well, you should have realised I was saying that with a certain provocative tone. You are, of course, entitled to your opinion, but aren't you are saying my opinion is wrong, so ain't that bang out of order too?

The Brabazon is widely regarded poorly by golf course reviewers, pros and golf architects, and little has changed in that regard since it opened. Many ordinary punters get seduced by the Ryder Cup mystique and history and are unable to see the course for what it is, which is mostly dull with a few slightly silly showy holes mixed in.

I walked round the Brabazon plenty of times when the English open was there and I used to go watch it as a young scamp.

I can only remember about 3 holes... 9th, 10th and 18th. The rest just merges into one I'm afraid.

That said, I would love to play the 10th... now that is a cracking hole and the Ryder Cup history just adds to that.

A 3 handicapper had the first ever hole in one on the 10th just the other day apparently...
