There's no question Flintoff was a better bowler than batter. Absolutely none. He was one of the best quicks in the world when his body permitted. So quick, accurate and hostile. Could move it off the seam both ways, and very adept at reverse swing. He was not a good batsman in my opinion. He was a bit of a slogger, poor technique, who really should never have batted no. 6. If he couldn't bowl for some reason then he would never have played for England because as a batsman only he wasn't good enough.

Siddle has given the Aussies a great platform for a victory in the first test. I think 260 is at least 120 runs short for England....

And Flintoff is a miles better bowler than Broad. Stats or no stats, he had presence and could intimidate a batting line up. Top man too!

I switched on last night at 11pm and actually thought that England had won the Ashes......I certainly thought that way due to the way Gower and Hussain were talking, Botham was a bit more cautious however.

Anyway 'we' have made a great start after being virtually written off by some.

Typical England performance. Actually promised a good knock and collapsed like a governments education promise. Siddle bowled well but some poor batting lower down. A long road to stay in contention in this one if the Aussies get a firm platform

The downfall started with Strauss' 'mare on the 3rd ball. Put Straya fully in the driving seat.

Still, it's a long series. I'm not too worried yet.

While this subject is up can anyone tell me why England are known as England and not Wales & England - They select from both nations so why does Wales not get credit for propping up English cricket? Is it the same reason the South Africans never have? ;)

They are even missed out of the abbreviation of the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

The should have a name like Engwelsh.

But I think I prefer WaleGland ;)

Well, that was nice :D

Massive response after a terrible first innings.

Alastair Cook = legend

Fair play to Strauss for putting up a tonne after his duck in the first innings. That must have taken balls of steel.
