The all things EV chat thread

Plenty of ways to get it even cheaper, if you charge on the road a lot then a subscription will save £££ ionity is 43p a kWh with membership
I'm sure there are. I was just using Gridserve as an example as that's who Mudball used.
I just checked, Octopuss at home charging is £0.07kwh between 11.30 and 05.30

It is disappointing, as it is with parking apps, that there is not one overall app for all, that other companies can then feed off. This seems an added complication for the consumer. They really need to know what's what instead of turn up, plug in, jobs a good un.

They have enforced that all chargers above a certain kWh must offer contactless, some apps like electroverse cover many providers, but not all. Better technology will come , Teslas already just plug and charge for example.

One more data point re. the cost per mile to run an EV or ICE.

I just filled up my petrol car. It had done 510 miles since the last fill, and cost £54 to brim the tank. That's about 10.5p/mile.

I don’t use public charging, so haven’t signed up for any memberships (other than the standard Electoverse). Home charging on Octopus is about 0.07 during off peak, so just use it.

Public high speed charging is expensive. But also painful that you need different apps. Love what Electroverse is doing with tie ups.

Because of this trip, I signed up to Tesla, but did not use it. My idiot BIL has a Tesla and he swears by it.

An ID3 would cost around £8 for about the same mileage if charged at home on 7pkwh

Sounds about right, I pay about 2p per mile.

Yes, absolutely no argument that home charging an EV gives very cheap running costs.
It's the cost of public charging that's way too high.
Agreed.
I'm sure if you checked, most EV owners can charge at home.
But I'm sure as with all things relatively new, prices will come down

It’s very much useful 👍

Car needs fuel, pop to nearest garage to get fuel , take two mins to fill it and out again

No need to fill it up for a couple of weeks
Nice you've got it down to 2 mins from 5. If I need to top up my car I plugged it in at home . 5 seconds max maybe ? How often I do that depends on mileage, same as you and anyone else . Could be a day could be 10🤷
But trying to convince an EV driver that visiting a petrol station is somehow a plus is plain crazy.
I drive past my old filing place and , trust me I don't miss it 🤣

The good news is every single ICE driver can use a petrol station when they need too

Not every EV driver can plug in at home

Swings and roundabouts

Filling up is not a hardship

Were suggesting filling up in 5 mins was a plus. It's the opposite. Having done journeys over 1000s of miles using public charging access Europe , it's easy peasy even without home charging.
