The all things EV chat thread

So we’ve progressed from bland cars to the bland reasons why people select cars.

Honestly, I thought most EV owners did so for a variety of reasons, but now I understand many were boring even before they were a thing.

Bland becomes more bland.

To be fair we like the most bland sport in the world

You drive an X5, hardly a jaw dropper, I'm not sure what your point is to be honest.
Most ice cars a bland
Most EVs are bland
They are there to serve a function for the most part.
It's a real oddity that people find they have to be rude and aggressive toward Ev owners.

Unless I direct a question to you, stop quoting my posts, or, follow my frequent requests and block me. Please?

Your posting style displays you’re all in a twiz. Deep breaths.

No one is being aggressive. Just you.

I’ll leave the thread now. I’ve some paint to watch dry.

Just to keep the discussion balance and less beige - but with you and burger boy, it’s a lost cause.

Up the EV’s!

Back in a petrol car this week a manual one at that.
Skoda kamiq, i believe it has an inline 3 cylinder engine ! Had to rev the absolute hell out of it to get anywhere.
If this is what I'm missing by going EV then no thanks.

How can this thread respect people when we’re reading statements like this?

We’ve gone from ‘I used to drive an M5’ to this tosh.

For private buyers EV’ are not cheap motoring. In fact it's the complete opposite, but the EVangelists refuse to accept this.

Anything half decent is over 40k new, so gets the luxury car tax, but even at circa £500 extra a year that pails into insignificance when EV depreciation rears its ugly head.

The whole thing is just grandstanding by the politicians in this country as whatever we do will not make any difference to global warming as the UK's total CO2 output is only 1% of the global amount. If they were really committed to saving the planet they'd be putting pressure on the 5 big polluters, China, The USA, India, Russia and Japan as without them onboard we're not changing anything.

Take the tax breaks away and there’s nowt left to discuss.

I drive an EV but not getting into the whole ICE vs EV as it's pointless, some people's views are so entrenched (on both sides) that they cannot see the others point of view.

What I would say is that EV's are expensive but you just have to look at the prices for new cars and they're rapidly reducing and there are a lot of models that are exactly the same price as their ICE equivalent. That is bound to continue and will become more affordable as time goes on.

The luxury car tax needs looking at, £40,000 is not luxury and drags in a lot of cars that are pretty standard.

EV depreciation is always brought up at how much it's worth over the first 12 months however how many people buy a car and then want to sell that quickly? If they do then it's totally their own fault that they're going to lose a load of cash. The depreciation of an EV over the cost of a lease period, 3-4 years is really not that much different to its ICE equivalent.

With regards the polluters we can only put pressure on them if we also look at how much of that we cause e.g. China and India we shipped out most of our manufacturing to so we're actually responsible for the pollution just indirectly rather than doing it ourselves.

Erm, how the hell was the post you quoted desrepecting anyone, it simply indicated ICE vehicles were not for them.

The UK and Europe are putting pressure on those countries to reduce their CO2 emmisions and China are not making great strides in that respect. We need to remember as the leaders of the industrial revolution (not a bad thing in itself) we have to take responsibility in leading the world out of its reliance an fossil fuels. If you see all that as disrepecting you then so be it.

It’s just trolling. What does the example he used have to do with anything other than slagging off ICE cars. A manual shed of a car versus an ugly auto EV?

Thread is just an EV supporters post fest, not ‘all things EV’ as presented. Present any debate and along they come.

Our Car scheme at work is changing now

So looking at a Hybrid XC40

But do like the Kuga

Anyone have either or any other Hybrid Recommendations

Cannot recommend anything but what sort of journeys do you do? If you do very little mileage than you're probably okay but if you do a decent amount of miles a hybrid is probably the worst thing you can look at as you're hefting round a battery etc that you'll rarely use. I only know this as a friend of mine, who does do decent mileage, did no research and bought himself a Range Rover Sport Hybrid (or something like that) and he's complained it's the stupidest thing he's ever done.

I don’t do that big journeys , pop to Peterborough once a month and then the odd journey to Somerset to visit family

After that it’s just mainly golf trips and ferrying daughter around

I had a hire XC40 last year for a week and didn’t use too much petrol

And aren’t you slagging off the “EVangelists?” Two sides of the same coin?

I’ve driven a few of the 3 cylinder 1.0 cars and found them very uncomfortable because of the noise & vibration. I’d also question the stress and longevity of an engine that’s being revved like that.

To get an ICE that isn’t rattling your fillings sees the price rise.

To be honest, I didn’t read that post as trolling at all. He questions the comfort of a 3 cylinder 1.0 litre. Think on the speed and acceleration of an EV, and then price up an equitable ICE vehicle.

My last two cars in the U.K. were an Audi A6 & BMW 420 coupe. Nice cars but I very much prefer the hybrids I’ve had out here. Great performance & quiet + no worries about charging stations.
