The all things EV chat thread

Recently changed to a Citroen C5 Aircross self charging hybrid.....love it.
Comfy, all the room you need, all the gizmos, nearly 50mpg, electric kicks in when it can, charges when needed...

It’s just trolling. What does the example he used have to do with anything other than slagging off ICE cars. A manual shed of a car versus an ugly auto EV?

Thread is just an EV supporters post fest, not ‘all things EV’ as presented. Present any debate and along they come.
As far as I can see no one on the pro EV side of the debate has insulted anyone (a car doesn't count as they don't have feelings), the only one doing the trolling appears to be. Perhaps you simply don't like discussion and everyone has to agree with you as the above post indicates, in which case I suggest you stick to X.

Loads of well priced EV out there these days, both new and used. Something for everyone from E corsas and minis to E-tron Gts that leave most things in thier wake. Some very high power SUVs too

I provide an alternate view and then the personal jibes get thrown.

I love a discussion, but this isn't one. Love EV's or don't speak up. Why can't those who oppose their proposed take over have a view?

What forms of social media I choose to interact on are not your choice either, they're mine.

Our Car scheme at work is changing now

So looking at a Hybrid XC40

But do like the Kuga

Anyone have either or any other Hybrid Recommendations
Are you talking plug in hybrid or self powered hybrid?

If it's the former, I wouldn't go near them. I don't know anyone who actually plugs them in so you are just lugging a heavy battery around in an under powered car

If it's the latter then Toyota are the kings, honda close behind.

I can't comment on the S.Korean options but obviously they are well respected now.

The xc40 is a lovely car. If you wangle one of them, you will have done well.

Self charging - if I could plug in then the we would have a full EV now

So I must have missed those personal jibes, for clarity can you please quote them.

I don't know how the Volvo compares in its hybrid guise but the actual xc40 is very nice. If that doesn't cut it then I'd be concentrating on anything Toyota/Lexus or Honda. They are the strongest on that type of hybrid according to most press and reviews.

We had a Toyota Camry on holiday last year, discontinued over here now, but the hybrid engine was very easy and comfortable, good economy rates. That set up is in other models, same as petrol and diesel engines across ranges. I'd happily have something similar.

Back in a petrol car this week a manual one at that.
Skoda kamiq, i believe it has an inline 3 cylinder engine ! Had to rev the absolute hell out of it to get anywhere.
If this is what I'm missing by going EV then no thanks.
I’m on holiday and the hire car is a 3cyl 1.0 Seat and I refuse to drive it. And I don’t even have an EV.

Crap cars are crap cars regardless.

How can this thread respect people when we’re reading statements like this?

We’ve gone from ‘I used to drive an M5’ to this tosh.

For private buyers EV’ are not cheap motoring. In fact it's the complete opposite, but the EVangelists refuse to accept this.

Anything half decent is over 40k new, so gets the luxury car tax, but even at circa £500 extra a year that pails into insignificance when EV depreciation rears its ugly head.

The whole thing is just grandstanding by the politicians in this country as whatever we do will not make any difference to global warming as the UK's total CO2 output is only 1% of the global amount. If they were really committed to saving the planet they'd be putting pressure on the 5 big polluters, China, The USA, India, Russia and Japan as without them onboard we're not changing anything.

Take the tax breaks away and there’s nowt left to discuss.

That depends on what and when you buy. The EV car I bought was almost the same price as an ice car of a similar type the garage had. Although I would agree that there was no way I could have afforded the list price of the same car but £10k off as a prereg put it in reach of my budget.

One of my mates a plug in . He says the charge gets him to the golf club and back which he does several times a week.

It was driving a loaned hybrid for a few weeks that made me make the switch but I never went the hybrid route as a I saw it as 2 systems on the car to be maintained.

I have the Nissan X trail hybrid, it has an 1500cc engine but it’s not attached to the wheels, it only charges the battery and it’s great. You get a lot of the benefits of an EV without all the downside. If you’re looking at the XC40 then the xtrail is worth a look as it will be cheaper for starters.

Yeah I'd agree, but I'd take a crap ev over it's equivalent crap petrol anyday.

Cheers - will be interesting to see what they come out with

The wife’s list included the Tiguan Hybrid

Do like the look of the Lexus

Is it an EV with a range extender or can you not plug it in?
