The all things EV chat thread

Having this scheme through work does make me question if I should buy my niro at the end of the PCP for 22k (will be 3 years old with 4 years left on warranty) or if I lease 2 of them for even more tax savings .. once I sell my wife's car the 22k will be there so the money isn't the issue.
I presume the tax savings you're referring to are through salary sacrifice?
There have been rumours that Rachel Reeves might be about to go after that.

How long can that go on with decent lease prices though? If depreciation is so heavy, lease prices will eventually catch up. The lease companies can't keep taking those loses.
It will catch up - not sure why but lease always seems to be like false ownership and it’s why you see lots of people in newer cars these days

Subsidies - when they stop, who knows...

It's a planned transition and the plan was to have us all driving EV's by now, so then we are trapped. Not unlike the oil scenario - something we all need (ed).

I said the same thing a while ago, and was shut down as fake news/scaremongering….
Every other day there is an article saying they are coming for
My:
ISA
Pension
Salary sacrifice
Savings
House
Blah blah

I mean untill some one can offer anything other than something from the telegraph or DM then yes, it's exactly as you describe
🤷

Electric cars are crashing in value with some worth as little as a third of their original price after just 12 months. The Mail has the story.

EVs in general have suffered catastrophic depreciation since the end of 2022 when a cocktail of issues sent used prices into a downward spiral.

This perfect storm hit almost simultaneously, involving a cost-of-living crisis, rocketing energy prices, hard-hitting media coverage of EVs, an oversupply of vehicles entering the second-hand market, and Tesla slashing new model prices.

It quickly brewed into a destructive tornado for used electric car values.

Three years later, this punishing depreciation is still hitting EV values – and to the tune of tens of thousands of pounds for owners who bought them outright and leasing and financing companies burdened with undervalued vehicles, according to data shared with This is Money and MailOnline.

Cap hpi – experts in the field of vehicle pricing – provided us with market information showing troubling EV residual values compared to cars of other fuel types, while also revealing the models that haemorrhage the most money after only 12 months.

To understand what’s stalling a recovery for second-hand EV prices, we also spoke to industry insiders to get their perspective on the crippling impact for the motor sector.

The point I would raise about this is how many drivers change their car after just one year a comparison after 3 years would be more realistic.

I have bought 3 one year old ICE cars over the years and have paid as little as half the original show room price for one of them.

Just like she was about to go after the tax free sum of pensions last year or the tax relief on pension contributions?

I prefer to work on what's happening now as opposed to what might happen

Either way it would just balance out in benefit in kind then would just still do it to reduce my wage to stay out of 60% tax

Popped into Skoda on my drive home today to get first hand pictures of the car for the parts I'm interested in (driver seat, rear space, boot space)

Very impressed with the presentation of the car

Spoke to tusker (our supplier) because I saw "if your home isn't suitable for a charger you can have it installed at a friend or family" so don't ask don't get. I explained I have a charger could I install for my sister (even if she doesn't buy my wifes car it sets her up as they want an EV next) so I'm doing the survey for her tonight whilst she test drives the wife's car and checks the boot space suits their needs (actually got my brother in law to make a decision within a day about the charger! Impressed) free was a zappi or an ohme pod. IE no lead but for £50 I could get them either tethered so that's what we going for.

Only thing I have found in our policy is we can only have 1 car on lease at a time but that does stop me going crazy and getting 2 just for the sake of it lol

The demand is very high on our scheme so the company have said can take 2 weeks for them to sign paperwork due to " unprecedented demand" well that's bull.. the scheme has been launching for so long people have put off changing cars waiting for it the company knew this they knew demand would be huge lol 🤣 least my paper work is 90% signed off just need them to do the second ok to confirm I work there.

Tusker have told me mid July

Good news, hope it arrives on time.

As a bit of a car 'lover,' this post alone shows the generational change in car ownership. It is a bit bland isn't it, but your opening statement is your requirements of driver seat, rear space, boot space. Serviceable and perfect for your family and life requirements, electric or not.

Car posts used to be so much more exciting :ROFLMAO:

Mate, not dissing you here, just speaking from a different perspective.

Agreed. I gave up interesting cars with the BMW lol since then it's all practical

I don't like cars that can't fit golf clubs without taking the driver out the bag. Think that's bad design from car makers. This boot is massive. 100l bigger than the niro which already fits a bag and 2 trollies comfortably (when I take my push trolly for a friend to borrow)

But I get more excited by auto closing boots and heated seats than I get about speed these days lol 🤣

Could have bought the latest ‘what car’ magazine. Same pictures in a shoot out against the new model y and kid ev6 ;-)

For everyone else, the article after is about affordable used EVs, but I am not there yet.
