I mentioned on another thread that I had a toss up between an ICE M235 and an EV iX2 when I was looking to replace my current car.

The iX2 was an ex-demonstrator and was recommended to me by the sales guy who advise me, and I quote, "PCP on a ne EV makes no sense whatsoever, lease is the best option but costs more. The best option is to PCP a used EV that's already heavily depreciated and even at a higher interest rate, you still get a better deal".

Take from that what you will.

I went for a larger downgrade to the 235 in the end as the whole purpose was to save some money so that I can move my contract work to 4 days.

Obviously that's just from one article however CarWow aren't a specialist EV website so have no particular reason to push those instead of ICE etc.

What’s the chip shortage that was mentioned ?
 
Like I mentioned to Missis T about looking at electric. I had a Seat Leon fr diesel. £20 tax. 55 plus miles on a run. Mid high 40,s normal use. Then I bloody wrote it off.
I bought a Mazda cx5 and was looking at seat again. Bottom line I am not 100% happy with it and most weeks I am putting £40 in it. The mileage is poor on the petrol. I am seriously looking at electric. I invested in Solar and they are monster for me making well over £2K a year. If I can save on petrol every week by charging an electric car do the maths on saving £140-£160 a month in Petrol.👍
The maths on this works depending on the price difference between an ICE car and an EV. If the equivalent EV costs £5k more, or however much, that takes a lot of catching up. It isn't as simple as this costs £100 per month to fill and this costs £4.50 per month to fill. It has to be a total cost comparison.

Incidentally, I have a 2.0d B class, 6 years old. I get mid 50's day to day, 65-70mpg on a long run. Fabulous economy. Have a look at one of them, or an A class if you don't like the shape of the B. Brilliantly efficient cars.
 
Yep, semiconductors were a rare beast just after Covid. Basically the reason why I had to wait 9 months for my car which I ordered in late 2020 as they had all the parts bar the chips!!
And also Russia's incursion into Ukraine, which was a huge supplier of chips, and not the potato variety either.:)

Wasn’t that ship stuck in the Suez canal a contributing factor as well? Everything came together and suddenly used cars cost as much as new ones because they were available.
 
Some of the terms can be confusing, picked this off t'internet -

Electric Vehicle (EV)
An electrified vehicle (EV) uses one or more electric motors and drives to move the vehicle, storing the necessary energy in batteries.

EV vehicle types include all-electric propulsion (BEV), plug-in hybrids (PHEV) that have external charging capability, and non-charging (HEV) hybrids.


Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV)
A battery electric vehicle (BEV) is characterized by the ability to store energy inside the vehicle’s included batteries and to move with only electric motors, without an internal combustion engine; for operation it therefore needs to be connected to an energy source to recharge the battery.


Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV)
PHEV cars share an electric motor with an internal combustion engine; the battery can be recharged both from the sockets and from the internal combustion engine.


Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV)
Also in this case the HEV cars are driven by the interaction between two motors, one electric and one internal combustion Ice (Internal Combustion Engine) and can travel for short km in fully electric mode but without the possibility of charging from the outside.

There's MHEV also (Mild).

Yep, whilst it was a pain to have to wait 9 months for my car to be delivered the silver lining was that my old car rose by £3,000 during the wait which was a bonus!
 
Urgent Question: I have a BMW EV. The BMW uses the standard CCS2 charger. Going on a road trip and I generally use Electroverse from Octopus. However, need a backup, so have downloaded Tesla app.

1) I am assuming some Tesla superchargers are now available for non-Tesla.
2) When i set up the profile, it asked me if i have NCAS to CCS adaptor. I have said no. but i thought Tesla was also on CCS (but called NCAS in the US). Simple question, do i need an adptor for Tesla to non Tesla CCS cars?

Nope all good no adapter needed and the Tesla app will only show you chargers you can use.
Ive used Tesla a few times.
Where are you headed ?

As Pete has said, when you go onto the Tesla app you stick your car details in so it only shows you compatitble chargers i.e. non Tesla cars. After that it's pretty easy although sometimes you have to do some creative parking depending on which side your charging flap is and whether someone else is charging!!

Yes, the older ones have a short cable designed for a reverse parked Tesla, new new ones are no problem.
Sometimes they are inside covered car parks as well so not always the easiest to find.

When i setup the car it asks me if i have a NcAS to CCs adapter … I have answered ‘no’.. seems to change the number of chargers.

Upto the lakes. Got upto M6 Tolls and the roadchef services. A grand total of 4 Medium chargers and 2 slow chargers!!! Car park is rammed and people waiting. Looks like they will be putting some more. But how do they expect 3-4 chargers for such a busy services

Hate the idea that I need to spend atleast an hour here - 20 mins to get a slot.

Also it is on Gridverse which is not on electoverse, so going to cost me a fair bit. Atleast 79p per kWh

Hmmmm mine didnt ask for adapter or anything .
I don't exactly know where you are but there a open Tesla in that area

Sounds like maybe you have the app set up for the USA ? They have a different plug on their Tesla's

Yeah saw it on the app.. but we had to get some food too.. it worked out but took additional time

Got enuf to get to the high speed GRIDSERVE chargers on M6/J36 Carnforth services. Amazing with plenty of 127k chargers and not a soul in sight. We went from 15% to about 50% in the time to pee and grab a bottle of bubbly .. this is how charging should be. In and out like a F1 pit stop as compared to the previous one.
 
I have no issue with EV's paying VED, we use the same infrastructure as ICE cars so should also be paying. My big bugbear is this 'luxury' car tax for those that cost £40,000 or more. With current car prices (both EV and Ice) how on earth is £40,000+ luxury?!

same as fiscal drag on taxes - easy win not to change it.
