Happy free for the rest of the year day all EV owners! Although TBF it's was probs march or something for octopus customers

By this date, the average petrol or diesel car driver has already spent as much on fuel this year as an EV driver will spend on electricity for the entire year.

Ok....
Anyway , octopus are now offering a £30 a month option for one EV regardless of how much you charge. I've not done the maths but I saw someone say they think it's about 18000 miles worth, although that depends on EV and driving style obviously. Still 360 a year for unlimited miles , that going to be good for some.

Thats why on my travels I try my best to use electroverse.. means one DD payment for the following

Car home charging
Car public charging
House electric
House gas
Sneaky extra golf stuff when the balance builds lol

Funnily enough I’ll spend about the same on the hybrid. I dare say the mileage is different but apart from one our two longer journeys a month, everything with the Yaris is electric.

I have just made the switch to Octopus, saw that deal and did not bother to do the 'how many miles?' maths knowing my current spend is around £2 a week.

Did you go for intelligent? That's what we have, I like the overnight cheap and smart charging. With 2 of my kids finishing uni this year , my miles will drop massively so I'll stick with iog.

I will be doing so once I am with them. I already have an OHME charger*.
I was doing a sign up via a referral from Paul but the referral page did not offer the straight to intelligent.


*The switch was caused by OVO charge anytime no longer working with my Peugeot and the OHME charger.

Interesting to see what comes of this. On the whole the surge of buying has stalled and somehow the govt needs to jump start those currently not convinced.

The article is not just about subsidies, it's about bringing charging to areas it isn't currently possible to.

I was recently considering making the jump to electric. One of the things that put it on hold for me was the introduction of VED for them.
A tax based on emissions and electric cars were hit for £195/year, which seemed silly. And any car with enough range, size and comfort for us is going to have a list price over £40k and attract the expensive car penalty. So that's an extra £3000 on the price over the first 5 years.

I'm not being political as I have no allegiance to any party, but I do wonder what they are going to give back compared to what they added and how much it costs to administrate?

I think it is simple serious realisation from the Government that allowing EVs to be tax free was going to make a serious dent in their finances for the long run.

They did the same thing to low emission diesels - scrapping the £30 rate of VED.

I'd be interested to know if ICE sales have also stagnated.
We were in the market for a new car and have been shopping around for a while but have decided that our 9 and 7-year-old cars can do a few more years.
Lots of fast but extremely boring and soulless cars out there at the moment - ICE and electric. I don't want to feel like I'm sitting behind a desk operating a computer when I'm in the car. Toyota was a breath of fresh air, which I never thought I'd say.
