Texas Scramble

It's a par 70 so they were 27 under par

When I saw the post originally I thought that was a 4BBB stableford score. I know the thread title said Scramble but 43 points, it didn't compute.

Mmmmmmmmmmm

With the made up allowances picked by EG/SGU ( governing bodies )it’s not a surprise now

That’s 27 under with them prob getting around 12/13 shots

This year was the first year both ours weren’t full

I’m on reserve/waiting list for entry to a scramble comp tomorrow. I don’t particularly like the format but it’s a fundraiser & course is pretty full this weekend so it may be only option for a game
I suspect an eyebrow raising winning score as usual but know for certain if it was 43 then prize giving would descend into chaos

Had one a course nearby where a plus 4 handicapper played with 3 guys all over 30 handicap, no restrictions on drives etc.

They won by 10 shots, a lot of unhappy people.

We've got the greenkeepers revenge scramble tomorrow, but with up to 50mph wind gusts on the forecast, I think it might be the first time we see a team of low handicappers win a scramble for once.

I’ve said it before, I no longer play in club scrambles for this very reason. You might as well just chuck your money down the drain.

I never enter any competition just because I want to win. I enjoy the competition of course, but I’m not out there to win above enjoyment and challenge. Some of these scramble teams want to win regardless. Not for me.

I enjoy a scramble between friends where you know how good/bad everyone is, they’re fun. I posted on here a while back about organising the comps for our trip to Portugal. I think it was 4 teams, those of us organising knew everyone’s level/true handicap, and so we were able to balance the teams properly. I can’t remember the exact scores but nobody ran away with it or scored anything silly.

The last place I was a member we only had 1 Texas Scramble a year and that was drawn.
Normally good fun and the scores generally were pretty close.
We did a Vegas Scramble one year as well which was a bit mental but seemed to go down well

I had to Google what that was, sounds crazy. 😮 Imagine all the Gods you'd be praying to if you hit one out of bounds, ha.

We did it in four balls and if you rolled a 5 or 6 you could choose which ball. One group didn’t roll either all the way round 😂.
There was also deliberation that if you got a hole in one but your number wasn’t rolled would it count 🤔.

Don't the rules say once the ball is in the hole the hole is over? So it would have to count, and no dice roll that time.

You've reminded me of another question I had while watching a Tour Scramble on YouTube the other day. In Tour Scramble, it's only a scramble from the tee shots, and then everybody plays their own ball - and all nett birdie get count as -1 for the team score. -2 for an eagle. So, if the pro hits a hole-in-one in a Tour Scramble, does that mean all four players get a hole-in-one and therefore an astronomical score?? Even with no shots that would be four nett eagles for -8 scored - if all three were receiving a shot then it's -11? 😮

I agree but the counter argument was if the ball was not chosen by the dice did the shot ever take place in the spirit of the game?
