Thought it would be better to have a separate thread for this, rather than post in Celebrities who have passed.

Brian Waites died a couple of weeks ago. Won twice on the European Tour and played in the 1983 Ryder Cup at the age of 43. Partnered Ken Brown to win his 4 ball match, but lost his other 3 matches as Europe lost 14 1/2 to 13 1/2.

Legendary amateur Peter McEvoy has passed away. A golfer of the highest class, he was one of England's finest ever players, and a distinguished Walker Cup captain. The McEvoy Trophy at Copt Heath next week will be a poignant occasion.

Peter Mc lost to my good friend, Paul Mayo, in the British Amateur final at Prestwick in 1987. They'd both been in the 85 Walker Cup Team.

Paul took a group of friends and family to play Prestwick last September. Afterwards we discovered McEvoy had been there a few days previously, so we just missed him. Paul speaks very highly of him all respects.

Sad news.

Jay Sigel, arguably the finest American post war Amateur, has died. Played on 9 Walker Cup teams, winning a record 18 matches. Turned professional on reaching 50 and won 8 times on the Senior Tour.
