Tesco loses £6.4 billion

Big Tesco fans in this house. Good balance of value and quality and the fresh food staff at Ashby are friendly and helpful. Can't use Waitrose as I'm only 65 and, therefore, not yet old enough and Sainsburys just seem to have "Item out of stock" stickers throughout their stores.

Today's figures appear to be an attempt to get all the bad news out in one go. Property portfolio revalued, some major new developments cancelled with resultant downvaluing. Pension fund deficit requiring servicing.

All of the above were known about and the figures not exactly a shock.

Haven't used Tescos for a few years now, after popping into my local Select and Save store where they continuously beat Tescos on price for bread and milk and better sell by dates. Usually shop at Morrisons and Aldi or Sainsburys.

Re: Tesco loses £6.4 billion

As has been hinted on couple of posts, new head honcho wants to position as bad as possible (look at mess I inherited), then can take credit for improving things.

Re: Tesco loses £6.4 billion

I'd give up last weekends golf for an hour inside a Tesco store

OK I scored pretty poorly to be honest but you get the point :smirk:

Yep! They actually made 1.4Billion profit on sales, though that was down from (a perhaps dodgy) 3.3.

We avoid using Tesco unless it is the only option. Rapacious and vindictive company (you'll gather we don't like them - personal reasons - just don't get the wrong side of them or expect any sympathy).

Me too. Although in my case it's mainly because I am addicted to those raspberry iced doughnuts they sell and I just can't be trusted to ignore them....

Not surprised to hear they are not doing that well.

I think their food is of poor quality and they treat their suppliers like dirt. I hope things get worse for them.

I'm sure their myriad suppliers and workforce aren't hoping for things to get worse...

And the thousands of small local businesses that would benefit hugely from a smaller Tesco market footprint probably are......

Are The Scots still boycotting them ?

On the advice of my daughters we use Aldi and Lidl a bit. I find them quite good but many of their customers look like retired former German based squaddies. Haircut and shoes are a giveaway.

They lost £6.4 billion!

I bet they've not checked down the back of the sofa. That's where it'll be. Would have slipped out it's back pocket and be nestled with the fluff and 2 years old peanuts.

Aye.
I'd much rather pay 89p for a pint of milk than 89p for three

Would you? Tell that to a dairy farmer. I would rather pay what it was worth.

Tesco do a good deal on chickens too. £1.99. I wouldn't buy one. Six week lifespan in a factory farm, injected with meds and growth formula. Yum.

Not really fussed where my hard earnt dosh is spent... All the big retailers are as bad as one another... Would like to spend my money with true local traders but these have all been wiped out, in these parts, by greedy landlords etc...

Herself goes to Tesco for me kippers... Best we've found from the big stores... Never will be as good as those fresh from the smokehouse but they'll do 'til I make the move next to the sea...

£6.4billion hole in their accounts? - and analysts say they will be able to find there way out of the mess. That's good to hear for others accused of having a hole in their finances of similar size. It's not the end of the world and things can most likely come right.
