Could somebody put me right please???
What is the correct teeing order in a Stableford competition?
I've always been led to believe that because it is a points based competition it is the person who scored the highest number of points on a hole that dictates the teeing order on the next.
For instance, I might have the honour on a par 3 and score par for 2 points, but if somebody else in my group who is shotting on that hole also makes par and scores 3 points, then they take the honour away from me?
Similarly, if they have the honour on a par 4 where they are shotting and make 5 for 2 and I par it without a shot and make 4 for 2, they retain the honour.
What's the correct way please?

I have come across both ways, but most often, I have been led to believe the opposite, that honour is always determined by gross score on a hole.

As for a definitive... *shrug* :D

Smiffy,
In a Stableford, the correct order of play is by net score (most points) on the previous hole. I didn't realise this for many years, but it is covered by...

Rule 32-1 - Conditions
"...In handicap bogey, par and Stableford competitions, the competitor with the lowest net score at a hole takes the honour at the next teeing ground."

However, there is generally no penalty for playing out of turn in strokeplay, other than if the two or three of you have been plotting mischief to help one or all of you gain some sort of advantage...

Rule 10-2c. Playing Out of Turn
If a competitor plays out of turn, there is no penalty and the ball is played as it lies. If, however, the Committee determines that competitors have agreed to play out of turn to give one of them an advantage, they are disqualified.

Just to clarify, we're talking about strokeplay here. The honour would be the same in a Stableford matchplay which does now get played occasionally (especially at clubs which are mixing up comps with men and ladies playing against each other), but your opponent could ask you to play your shot again if you played out of turn in matchplay.

Is that based on the new full handicap allowance or the proper 3/4s   :D ;)

It's based on the thirteen shots you now give me Bob.
Hope that helps

Is 13 enough based on your putting performance yesterday?

Or was that just 'oops I've missed another 12 incher. There goes my buffer. Oops and another one' ;)

sorry jezz just wondering in normal strokes match play, the scenario here is you are giving me 1 shot say.. i win the 1st hole , then we play the hole i have the shot on ok ? my honour here . i shoot 5 you shoot 4 so a nett half .. whos up 1st on next hole ..

other than in matchplay does it really matter? medal, stableford, bogey are all you against the course - what your partner does (so long as it's legal) is largely irrelevant to your play.

Sorry, I couldn't get past Smiffy having the honour.... :D :D

You've forgotten the 17th and 18th at Copthorne last week mush. You know, after you creamed a 300 yard drive down the 16th, thundered a beautiful iron into one of the toughest greens on the course and then three jerked.
We both had fives. But I got a shot.
Remember????

cracker of a question smiffy

I thought you'd like it.... ;)

I only asked because I was playing yesterday and the guy I was playing with made a 4 on the 1st (par 3) but was getting a shot. I wasn't. So he had 2 points, I only had 1.
I told him it was his honour but he wouldn't have it, saying that I had retained the honour from the first tee.
I tried to explain that the honour went on points but he wouldn't have it and made me go first. I was so surprised I dumped one in the water hazard off the tee and racked up a glorious 7 for 1. That was one of the greens I didn't 3 putt by the way.

;)
