Taylormade SLDR Loft Up Challenge

My first few hits with the SLDR I didn't get on with it - as it had the totally wrong shaft / loft combo. However, after hitting one for the past few weeks and with a fitter on Friday have settled on one in 11 degree, with an x stiff shaft that was booming it longer than anything I've hit before.

God help us!

The last thing we needed is you hitting longer!

Tried the R11 hated it, the R1 even worse by feel and sound and with the horrid graphic. The SLDR is just a reworked Mizuno MP630 but tried that and no different distance wise, wider dispersion and an inch and a bit longer then my driver. It's nothing new that there doing.

Its not not the same concept as the Mizuno.

The Mizuno driver had the sliding weight at the back of the head with a centre of gravity towards the back of the club. The SLDR head has the CG low and forward which cuts the spin hugely. The reason you usually need to Loft Up with the SLDR is that you still need to get the ball in the air, as it's not being 'helped' into the air by as much backspin.

The sole plate in the R11/R11s/R1 helped put the CG towards the back where all the manufacturers still have it. But when the TM R&D guys started playing about with low/forward CG and seeing the improvements in distance, they needed to get rid of it and put the adjustability towards the front of the club to ensure the CG stayed there - hence the sliding weight - which is at the front of the club, unlike previous moving sliding weights.

Lolz, case in point to my previous comment was me at Woodhall Spa though! I took along a SLDR White to show people if they wanted to see, which had a different shaft and drove awfully all weekend. I couldn't work out how to correct the (many) issues and so when I spoke to one of our fitters, he manage to explain it pretty quickly and basically what I should have been doing with the weights/loft. Lo and behold, I've stuck with that now and hitting it well.
