Hi everyone, im looking at a new driver and wanted a bit of feedback from people who have taken the Loft Up Challenge. Are you really getting the distance gains that are being quoted all over the web i.e. Twitter etc. And how does the driver feel compared to the R1 for instance. Iv seen varied videos on YouTube some show large gains and some show no gains so just looking for a little feedback from people who have had a go with the club or own one! It seems that the driver is already available for around £220 from some sources so just wanted to know how people are getting on with the stick. Cheers Todd

I think the gains will vary hugely dependant on you current driver, saw yesterday a lad gained 60 yards! But his old driver was completely wrong for him, so could he have gained that with anything?!

Best bet is try it out for yourself. I know lots of people that have had decent gains with them though!

I have gained around 20 yards distance with the SLDR

It feels so much smoother and softer of the face

My personal experience is its a mile better than the R1

Tried one...didn't like it, so got my money back. Personally found it really unforgiving on off-centre strikes, and I just couldn't deal with the immediate high launch, so didn't like the flight at all

Yes the Titleist is fitted im just not getting along with it at the moment and wanted to go and try something else. Probably going to have a go with a G25 as well as it seems to get good reviews.

I really wanted the SLDR to work as loft is your friend- hated the height it launched and gained nothing. Not for me I'm afraid

I tried one it was a snap hook machine for me , the jetspeed on the other hand has added 20-30yards on my drives gps measured ,

This is due to me having a slow swing speed and the light shaft helping club head speed

Opposite for me loves the sdlr but didn't like the jetspeed seem dull off the face compared against sdlr which did seem strange but may just of been a sound thing. Although flight scope had me better with sdlr 10.5 not much lofted up as my r11s is set at 9.75.

There are loads on eBay, listed at £229 but if you look at the descriptions they are PGA pro's who will sell them for less if you ring the pro shop direct. If I do get one I can guarantee I wont be paying £300 as one thing with Taylormade products is they always come down in price fast.

at the callaway Kings of Distance day my SLDR was outgunned by a Big Bertha Alpha by an average of 13 yards and had a couple 25 yards longer

Tempted

Tried the R11 hated it, the R1 even worse by feel and sound and with the horrid graphic. The SLDR is just a reworked Mizuno MP630 but tried that and no different distance wise, wider dispersion and an inch and a bit longer then my driver. It's nothing new that there doing.

Tried the SLDR and just didn't feel right for me. Have a nike covert tour with a similar low spinning head but just couldnt get on with the SLDR. Suspect that is more shaft related than the club head. Looks pretty behind the ball though, first TM club that I have liked since the R9 Super tri.

Its not not the same concept as the Mizuno.

I got an SLDR with the idea of replacing the stock shaft with a Matrix Black Tie. Just to test it I tried the stock shaft against the Matrix on a monitor. The Mattix was giving me consistently 10 to 15 yards more. The low launch of the Matrix seems to flatten out the flight & lower the spin eve further. Just confirms my belief that stock shafts are not the best and the shaft is at least as important as the head.

I would have a go for yourself with a proper fitter / launch monitor.

We had a guy who genuinely gained more than 60 yards on Friday down at Wentworth - https://twitter.com/samhamilton123

He was spinning it at over 8000 rpm with his old driver and he walked away with spin levels between 2000-3000 and average carry up from 160 to 220, with one which was 74 yards more than his best with his previous driver.

There will be a shaft, head, setting with the SLDR which will get you more distance and accuracy but it's a case of hitting it for yourself to see - in particular at the moment with the money back guarantee as Wabinez mentioned earlier.

My first few hits with the SLDR I didn't get on with it - as it had the totally wrong shaft / loft combo. However, after hitting one for the past few weeks and with a fitter on Friday have settled on one in 11 degree, with an x stiff shaft that was booming it longer than anything I've hit before.
