No, I'm not starting yet another debate about which is better, just after a little advice.

Since I took up the game about 18 months ago I've used a trolley. I've decided now that I'd rather carry my gear full time and I'm in the market for a bag.

I've looked at a few bags online and in my local AG and they all seem pretty similar.

Are there specific things you should look for in a stand bag (specific features) or is it more of a case of finding one that suits your eye and off you go?

As a guide I've been looking at the Taylormade TMX bag

All recommendations gratefully appreciated.

My last TM carry bag just fell apart, very quickly. Would not buy another.

I have 2 Titleist carry bags. They are useless in the rain.

If buying now, I would go for a Sun Mountain H2NO, or the waterproof Titleist one. This time of year, it pays to be prepared for rain.

Can't understand why more bags are not waterproof.

Most of the features to look for would be the same as those you already know in a carry or cart bag, ie: pocket space and arrangement.

Couple of things specific to carry bags I look out for are:

good club divider layout to minimise club chatter.

decent rain hood with simple to use attachments (I've seend some shockers)

how strong the stand mechanism looks: if that gives out it's really annoying.

weight, although too light usually means flimsy.

My Callaway (can't remember the model name, sorry) has been great. Really well built and still looks good as new after 7 years. They make good quality kit, whether clubs or bags.

Not sure if the TM bag you've shown is the actual colour scheme you're tempted by? Only advice would be that white would be a pig to keep clean! My bag is forever falling over when I shove it down quick on slopes and it topples over.

I recently got a Nike SasQuatch Tour bag off ebay for about £90 (avoided AG who were selling at £130) and I can't recommend it highly enough. It's got 14 way dividers and the materials are all of a really good quality.

i'd advise going for a waterproof one too, i had a taylormade R5! stand bag until changing to a cart bag this year i didnt find any problems with it although it seems better made than the recent versions. with regard to the wtaerproof side i found the canvas type of material it was made of extreme porous and meant hours of drying every out if t rained!

I bought a sin mountain tour h2no bag from the craw off here and without a doubt it is the best carry bag I have ever owned. If it ever gets replaced it will be with another.

H2N0 stand bag or Titleist Stadry (I saw the latest version at the weekend and it looks good and is feather light).

Both very light and waterproof if you keep the zips closed.

I have the H2N0 staff cart which is essentially the same bag without a stand.

It's very light and waterproof - one major drawback is that the cart bag rubs through into holes if you do not put extra padding on the rubbing points on your cart. Something to be aware of if you feel like putting your carry bag on a trolley one day.

Ogio, probably one of the best innovative Golf and travel bag manufacturers in the world. Just released the Shoxx system, which is basicaly suspension on the shoulder straps

Sun Mountain H2O heard great things or Titleist Stadry, friends got one and raves about it

sun Mountain, Titliest stadry, or Mizuno aerolite (or the aerolite micro is awesome if you don't need "full size").

My Mizuno aerolite is ridiculously light.

Funny you should mention Mizzy bags.

Just looking at the Aerolight 4 stand bag. Does look rather nice and best part of half price compared to the TM (...... Which Murph's comments have put me off)

I have just got a Sun Mountain stand bag, and very pleased with it so far. Would avoid Taylormade bags, as my trolley bag is rubbish.

Surprised to hear that about TM bags. My TM trolley bag is fantastic and I still have my old TM R7 stand bag that I got for half price when I purchased the R7 driver when it was first released, which would be about 6 year ago. Go to your local American Golf or Direct Golf as they have all the bags in there and you can look at them all. That would be my advice as I think you fancy the TM bag as you want it to match your TM clubs.

Got the Titleist Sta-Dry and its great - and actually waterproof as far as it can be with a gaping hole in the top where the clubs go.
The pockets are watertight though - it can be hard to use the pocket zips with one hand though but that's a minor thing.
Very light, more than enough room and looks like it might last a while too.

After seeing the Stadry last weekend I put my money where my mouth is and succumbed yesterday.

Cannot believe how much lighter it is than my Callaway stand bags.

As Imurg said, the zips are tricky one handed and when I stuffed my sweater in the clothing pocket along with my waterproof top my clubs started getting tricky to get in or out.

I think the way forward with this is to embrace the lightness and not overload it.

Plan today is to leave the sweater at home, just base layers and waterproofs on and see how we go.

it's maybe worth while going into the shop and trying a few bags out on your back to see what feels comfy.

or be nosey with your playing partners bags unless they all use trolleys:D

i personally use the ping hoofer extreme and find it ok,i wouldn't recommend it though as the strap system and stand leaves a lot to be desired.not a patch on the old hoofer bags.

as has been mentioned i would recomment a bag such as the titleist stadry which is the waterproof bag that totleist makes and it looks the part and all its functions work really well.

Worth looking at the Mizuno Twister. Has detachable bags that means it can be a winter bag or a very light summer bag. Plus it has a stand for use on trolleys.

My old Mizuno GTO gave up the ghost today, both the legs broke as it fell over in the wind.

Stole my wifes small stand bag that has sat in the golf storage room for the last 5 years. Only big enough for a half set so will stilck with that now or at least till i can get my hands on one of the new Mizuno aerolite spr bags.
