People, a conversation over the weekend has got me thinking - do any of you lot have any golf specific superstitions??
I remember reading an article some years ago about the pro golfers of the time and a large proportion had them - some never used a golf ball with a number higher than two as it encouraged three putts, some only used a particular coloured tee and some wouldn't wear a particular colour of clothing.
So, any strange superstitions out there?? Do you have to put your left shoe on, turn round, touch your toes, listen to the 3rd track off Travis' first album before you put your right shoe on? Be honest now.. :D :D

I use an old Irish Punt my Dad gave me years ago as a ball marker and i always put it down with the Stag motiff facing up, it has a little dent on the side that i put next to the ball.
If i have to move it for someone elses shot (usually do as its the size of the old 10p) i turn it over to remind me i moved it. ;0) ;)

I played in our 36 hole captains final back in August with a brand new, really smart Oscar Jacobsen black and red shirt. Now, I'd also recently bought some new socks from Tesco that had coloured toes and heel. You've guessed it, I selected the red ones for the day and went out and shot 69 gross in the afternoon (my best ever medal) and came second.
Last Saturday I was in another final so put on the same by now "lucky" shirt but disaster, the red socks were in the wash. I nearly selected orange but then remembered I had bought two packs and found the other pair of red. Played well, came 4th and picked up another prize.

The moral of this story? For all the swing thoughts, lessons and practice, it all basically comes down to socks.

I'll go for a lie down now.

Don't know if they count as superstitions but

Only use even number balls currently prov1x 8 first then 2, 6,4
only use white wooden tees five at a time to be kept front right pocket, back right pocket ball marker and pitch mark only

I never play golf wearing only Speedos...apart from that I'm good to go. Oh, I also carry a lucky penny which stops jumbo jets crashing on the green as I'm putting - so far it's doing it's job.

Pitch repair marker and ball marker in left pocket. 2 small and 1 big white wooden tees in right pocket and i always put head up when mark the with the Texas quarter. I think its more habbit than superstition but there you go.

None for me but when I was smoking I never smoked a cig on even holes. Dont know why but it came into my thoughts one day and thats the way it turned out. Always had a cig on the 1st tee, then 5th tee, 7th fairway and wouldn't of had a smoke until the 13th. But as soon as I was walking off the 18th green out came the packet and lit up. Strange that, but it wasn't planned it just happened.
As for superstitions NOPE none.
I remember a few yrs back I found a ball marker, it had Lady Captain on it. Just so happens she was walking past so I handed it to her. She told me I could keep it as it was our Captains day the following week. So I thought ok I'll use it. I 3 putted the 1st green, so it was never seen again. I think the bushes caught it.

I always wear my watch when i play otherwise i play bad. This is formed from my last 4 rounds. 3 with watch on, 1 without. You guessed it, played well 3out of 4 when i was wearing my watch.

I always sometimes wear a white glove, only use white wooden tees unless I find another colour on the tee, only use a Scotty pitch repairer unless I've forgotten to put it in the bag and always use my Odyssey poker chip marker unless that is with my Scotty pitch repairer in my other bag. Only use ProV balls unless I use some other ones and only odd (or even) numbers.

Yep, that should cover you against any bad Ju-Ju.

I always put the clubs in the exact spot in the golf bag. The worsed one i have is the golf bag must be in the same spot in the house the night before i play and the clubs must be washed in the correct order.

seeing it written down like that i think am a bit weird :D :D

All clubs have to go back in the same section of the golf bag. There are differing numbers of partitions in my trolley bag and carry bag, but for each bag there are certain clubs that have to go in certain partitions. Or else......!!!

I always have the same pitch mark repairer, and ball marker (an old Hong Kong dollar) in every game I play.

Both the pitch mark repairer, and the ball marker are ALWAYS put in the right rear pocket of my toursers. The ball marker is always used on the green facing tails side up.

Why ???? I have absolutely no idea. Always have done, always will.

:D :D

So basically we are all a psychiatrists dream. I have a US25c that I have to carry even if I don't always use it as a marker and I have to have two pencils in my back pocket.

Over the years there have been other little traits but these eventually get dispensed with after one bad round too many and something always replaces it. If I find the winning mo-jo I'll be sure to pass it on

Always have to have my NNL Player badge that broke and is now serves as my marker in my pocket for marking the ball.....had it now for about 4 years and don't know why I have to have it cos it has been present when I have played like a tw@t but also been present when I have shot the sticks out!

I can't think of any. I'll happily use any colour tee or glove (me likee the pink/black combo). I don't usually even know the number of my ball ('cause no other wally plays Px3 soft anyway). I use any old marker and wear whatever is closest to the shower in the morning.

As long as the 12' giant magpie flies over my house between 6-7 am and none of the lights are on red on the way to the club, I know I'm going to play well.

One thing I forgot to mention......If I have a Wilson Spine in my bag, I know every drive is going to be on the fairway.
If I have just the 7 Mizuno irons I know I'll miss every green after a good drive.
