Go on then, spill the beans.

Obviously a fair few of you just use variations/shortenings of your real names. For those that have chosen something other than that, what's the story? Any particular reason behind your choice, or totally random? If your avatar doesn't fit the name or isn't obvious, what's the story there?

When I joined up I was reading The Godfather novel. I liked the name Don Barzini so chose that. That's literally all there is to it!

Avatar wise, I used a stock photo of the movie character of Don Barzini for a while. More recently I used AI to put him into a Forest shirt, since I spend most of my time here on the football thread ranting about Forest and having a jolly old time.

So, what's yours? (y)

My username is just my name and surname put through a 'Japanese name translator' that I found online donkey's years ago. (Although I think that gave me 'Orii Kooru' and I took out the double vowels.) Was originally for online gaming (PS4 account), where I thought a cool Japanese-sounding name would be a good idea. I also prefer unique names so I don't have to add numbers to it or anything when registering in new places.

The avatar is Steven Toast, played by Matt Berry. I'm a big fan of Toast of London, I think it must have been on TV around the time I registered, so I guess I liked the idea of people reading my posts in his incredible voice. 😁 It's been on there since the day I registered, I've never wanted to change it really.

Some time (maybe a year or so) after I joined my first club - aged 26 I'd been playing since I was 13 - I found myself playing with a member I didn't know.

Playing our 9th hole (I can remember the moment clearly) he said to me that he was sure he'd played with me before...even though we were pretty sure that we hadn't. He then said that he realized why he had thought that...and asked if I'd read Hogan's Modern Fundamentals...book as "you swing it like Hogan"

I was given Hogan's book when I was about 14 and had 'modelled' my golf swing on what the pictures of the book showed. No lessons just the pictures in a book.

The avatar is of course the famous photo from the 1950 US Open at Merion of him hitting the 1 iron shot to the 18th to make the playoff - which he won.

ETA...tbh I've thought I might change it (maybe even just to SILH?) as it was just something that my ego loved at the time and when I came on here...besides - I no longer swing it like Hogan.

I have always wondered about your name actually. I assumed it (and the avatar) were some TV/movie character I was unaware of! I confess I have never heard of Toast of London!

If you like daft humour like Father Ted, it's a must-watch. (y) Also if you love Matt Berry, as I do, it's another classic role for him.

Whilst my user name is obvious, the mug was a Christmas gift from my wife.

In case you cannot read it it says

Work is for those that do not know how to play golf.

I had on my desk for a couple of days but the boss made me take it home.

Not to me it ain't...but then again these days much goes whoosh over my head.

What else could it be but Robin Hood when you live in Nottingham.
However I did feel a bit mean when I saw a member called “Robin the Hood”
The Avatar is of a lighthouse bulb that I photographed in a museum in Spain

Same name I use on a West Ham fans forum, thought it was transferable to a golf forum, although more accurately it should be slice and die 😞

Photo has changed over the years from political slogans to dog pics, this one is just from the "Iconic London Stadium".

Early blackberry predictive text changed my name to Slab, so back in the day I got a lot of emails addressed that way. Didn’t realise I’d still be using it 15 years later or I would've chosen something with more shelf life.
Avatar is just a pic of me caddying for Nicolas Colsaerts on a DPWT event

I joined when GoT was in full flow. I thought it would make me chuckle, and hopefully others, if they imagined the posts being written or read out by the Tyrion character, my favourite character in the show.
Just coming to the end of a break in Dubrovnik, loads of GoT stuff in the Old Town and completely lost on me and the wife as we have never seen it - and no interest in it whatsoever 😂

Normally our family nickname for Robinson is Robbo, but that's always taken up so I combined the first three letters of my surname, the first three letters of my forename and added the r at the end.
The Avatar is the Librarian from the Discworld novels of Terry Practhett. One of my favourite characters. That fact that I have (or used to have) red hair and a beard makes it sort of like me as well.

Dubrovnik was a major filming location for the show. There were some iconic scenes set there. If it's not for you though.......

Hope it wasn't too hot for you. I've been to Cavtat twice, lovely spot, and our visits to Dubrovnik were cut short as it was just too hot there, walled city trapping the heat in. I'd like to go back again and wander in comfort.

Was quite hot but today (last day) is cloudy and windy with storm forecast for later this afternoon. Lovely place and would definitely come back.
