Stopped after 25 years

I’d keep it private. No way Camelot could convince me to share.

Lots of charities would be calling round for donations and then you would probably also get folk crawling out of the woodwork from days gone by. Not a penny from me, sorry

I know what I would do with a big win and I would stick to that.

Pay to have some trees cut down?

We had a 6 man syndicate from the very start, faithfully every Wednesday and Saturday, we stopped when they changed the format and doubled the price.
I also stopped doing my own 3 lines on a Wed and Sat.
If they hadn't changed the format we would probably still be playing and paying.

i don't think he is Homer, but the old saying ' it won't change me", why do the lottery then.

I did it as I bought into the idea of local community causes and protecting heritage. Never won huge amounts and to be honest I wouldn't want a massive win. Something big enough to pay off my debts, buy a modest car and put a little away for a rainy day would suffice. Surely becoming a multi-millionaire brings a whole load of stress. I enjoy my work as well so not sure I'd want to quit working and even though the notion of playing golf every day sounds appealing I am sure the novelty would wear off and I'd get bored

Cut back when it went up in price, and cut back when they added extra numbers. Now just do it occasionally. From a tenner a week, £40 a month, down to £6 in the last year or so. In fact, thinking about it we've probably bought 5 tickets since moving to Spain in Feb last year.

I ran a small syndicate at work for a while, in December 2006 we matched all 5 main numbers on the Euromillions and won just over £61,500. At the time there were 2 lucky stars numbered 1-9, if we'd hit one of those it would have been £1.5m between us....but it wasn't to be.

I had to go to camelot to collect the cheque, they offered guidance on banking and whether to go public/private. Found the whole thing a good experience.

Still hoping for a big one.

I've never done it really. Maybe bought a ticket two or three times tops in my life. If I was to do it the last thing I would do was choose numbers myself based on meaningful reasons, or else you have to keep doing it every week for the rest of your life - lest the one time you don't do it be the time your numbers come up. Would be lucky dip all the way for me.

And I agree with most that no good can come from going public with your winnings. That would ruin your life pretty much. I'd sort out family members, close friends who need something, get a nice house somewhere and that'd be that.

Stuck a tenner a week on the last time the Euromillions got up to 150 million plus, figured if I win, I can make a lot people happy. Oh that was a really deluded thought. For all those draws, I matched one number across all the lines I put on.

For the normal lottery, we've put on the same numbers since day 1, we'll continure to do so, as it would be sods law that our numbers would come in the day we stop playing

Today I stopped doing the National lottery after 25 years
I have had the same numbers for the whole time.
My biggest win was £104
The reason
I read the story of the guy that won 9.7 million where he paid Liverpool gangsters 130k when they threatened to cut up his daughter.
Wether true or not I’ve decided I don’t want to win a vast amount of money.
We as a family are very happy in a comfortable position.
Money can change people and I don’t want that problem in my life.

Very interesting and I think not playing the lottery can lead to an important change in mindset.

For the record I am a lottery player and even run a syndicate in the office - however this was done primarily with saving money in mind, rather than as a way of playing more. Theory being that I now pay for half a ticket for every Euro draw and have 8 chances to win - prize split 16 ways. So a much better economy than buying one whole ticket each draw and having 1 chance to win.

But I find myself day dreaming about winning, how my life would change. That I could join other golf clubs, fix up the house, get new cars etc. Ultimately being happy is the main thing. Ok, so money isn't necesarilly going to harm you, but it might not be the be all and end all.

Think of a summers night where 2 or 3 of you get away from work early, out to the golf course. Sun shining and you have a great game from 6pm till nearly 10pm. Great banter, good wee game for £5 a head and a cold drink afterwards. You derive a great deal of pleasure from that - but suddenly if you could play every day, you wouldn't get the same pleasure.

Same as going on holiday. You might get 7 or 10 days a year on a trip to a nice location. All of a sudden, you can afford to go on as many trips as you want... is there really the same pleasure from said trips? I'd say absolutely not.

Ok, so taking a £4 a week and putting it away is probably not going to grow into a sum that would otherwise change your life, but important to remember that ultimately 'you are buying a dream' and the chances of that becoming reality are almost zero.

I used to have a standing order but over the years won a few free lucky dips and maybe a £25 and cancelled when they increased the numbers to make the already long odds even worse. I've never gone back to check my old numbers as that way lies madness. o_O
I buy the occasional ticket and last week had £2 in my pocket leaving Asda. Bought a lucky dip and won £30. More success than on my standing order!
I wouldn't go public on it and I've already said to the missus I'd still feel the same about her if I won the lottery. I'd even go as far as to say I'd miss her. ;)

Done it for the last decade.

Just one run of numbers for the lottery. Do the work syndicate thing when the euro millions starts to roll over.

If anyone wins and wants to keep their life the same. I'm happy to be guinea pig and see if unlimited hols and golf gets boring.

I'm happy enough in my work, but have no doubt that I'd more than happy to stop tomorrow.

Like. Most, I'd keep quiet too.
