Stevie G (not that one!!) - spoiler!!

Stephen should get picked, played so well this week considering how much pressure he was under to perform. Gallacher and Poulter definites I reckon. 3rd pick will be either Westwood or Donald I reckon.

the difference is he was playing for himself against a lower class field, and some of his shot selections were poor, how would he fair against say Fowler in a singles game knowing he has to get the points, and Fowler playing his A game.

I would say he would handle himself very well just as Europe have done in the past against their supposed better counterparts.

To question someone's bottle after he had a 65 is quite amusing

8 top tens this year including the WGC cadillac, a win in Dubai, only missed 3 cuts and higher OWGR than Poulter or Westwood. Would also add a huge energy to the Scottish element of the crowd and Mcginley has said he wants to make this the loudest RC ever. All in all, a pretty good case for a debut.

The field is irrelevant, you play the course not the field. Under the biggest pressure, he put together an awesome final round, and if it wasn't for an unbelievable 63 from David Howell, he'd have that Ryder Cup spot. So impressed with his golf this week, and for me, he simply has to be picked.

He's certainly put himself at the forefront of Capt Paul's mind after today.
But he's going to have to sweat it out - it could be said that he's had enough chances to qualify automatically and so therefore deserves to have a sleepless night!
If it's between Poults, Westy, Luuuke and Stevie I would be surprised if Donald gets the nod.

You make a very strong case sir

There has got to be a point when current form becomes more important than passed results and experience. For me poults, westy and Donald just haven't got it together enough this year.

If your playing pants experience just isn't enough sometimes.

Poulters character is worth a few points so he should be considered but I wouldnt be overly disappointed if westy and Donald were both dropped this time.

Looking at form:
Stevie G - 8 top 10s in 22 events this year including win in Dubai
Lee W - 3 top 10s in 20 events this year - win in Malaysia
IJP - 2 top 10s in 18 events
Luke - 4 top 10s in 19 events

Steve G has to play. I do not want to be McGinley right now choosing between 2 out of those 3.

Poulters obviously a cert given his experience and can be quite good in the team factor(not to mention Medinah)

I would love Stevie G to make it.... not only has he had a good year for form it would also bring the rookie factor to it and how many times do you see Rookies bring it when its the RC. Then there's the home advantage and support he'd get from the home crowd- he simply must go!!!!

Then it's between Donald and Westwood and let's be honest neither have had great form (but in general terms are better players than Stevie G)

maybe he has other people on his Radar....like Monty and Langer, and Poulter as one of the assistant Captains:mmm::eek::whistle:

so he must play in your eyes because he hasnt played in it before and he is Scottish, what if his bottle goes and he has a nightmare, would it hit his confidence, how many rookies have been destroyed by playing in the biggest team comp in golf.

How many rookies have been destroyed ?

Why would his bottle go ? He is a top golf pro who has played in the biggest comps in the game

Molinari to get in before Westwood or Donald?

I keep changing opinion. I now think if it was me I'd go with Stevie, Poults and Molinari. He's showed a bit of form lately albeit not scintillating but he's a fit for Fourballs and Foursomes too as he's usually steady as a rock.

Interesting indeed.

I seem to remember from last match, that of historical picks they rarely perform well, other than the form players.

So if we go by sensible history SG will be picked as a from player and will be given one 4 ball round before the singles!

:)

I'd go for Gallacher, and then 2 from Jimenez, Langer, Monty. :)

Would love to see Jimenez and Monty going for their "fitting".

Was very disappointed with Molinari yesterday. Not a great final round and struggled to get anything going. I would rather go Westwood and Poulter along with Gallagher. I think with Westwood, he'll be a great foil in fourballs as he does hit fairways and greens and so would give his partner the freedom to be more aggressive. Similarly in fourball, although I agree that if he's left a fiddly chip he may struggle. Poulter knows how to peak for a RC and has that intimidation factor. Gallagher seems a steady player, coming into form and would relish it in Scotland with the crowd on his side and I doubt very much that he'd choke
