State Sponsored Child Soldiers

Why don't you stop constantly whining about our, yes our government and go and play some golf or something. It's becoming tiresome.

He doesn't play, he's just one of those whinging trolls that spend their sad day moving around forums and attempting to wind the odd person up. His sad life seems to be about searching and finding any insult associated with the UK and publishing it on an ad hoc forum.

He's just the entertainment.

PS very few youngsters who attend cadets ( instead of sitting on street corners eating fried mars bars and drinking buckies ) actually join the forces. Info available from the MOD if you can be bothered to submit an FOI request.

FOI requested by someone in 2013 and the figure given was approx 20% of The British Army at that point were ex cadets.

Well done for trying to insult a nation's youth again.

It is a long time since I saw youngsters hanging around street corners, perhaps it is a Devon thing.

Well I am sure that we could all think of better ways to spend £50 million.

There's shed loads of money spent in ways that, individually, we may disagree with but instilling discipline and order into young ones is a good way in my opinion. You're way off the mark with "child soldiers" and, like others, I find that objectionable and it just goes one stage further in proving your posts are always anti Government, anti UK and frankly getting pretty pathetic

You really do need to get out more.

Its been a lot longer since we have seen UK children running around in combat zones but as most of your political posts are all about your double standards this last one is not a suprise.

Unfortunately during times of combat recruiting figures getbadly skewed (the Falklands and Gulf 1 nearly doubled the foot fall throughACIOs) and this could be a reason thatthe percentage seems unusually high and perhaps the fact that University OTC’smight have been included.

Seeing you live in a remote Hamlet then I guess you dont have a clue what goes on a big cities. Go out and look around any UK city and sink estate, it will educate you to the realities of the subject.

I thought this thread was going to be about young kids in African war zones that were forced into front line combat or threatened with dismemberment.

Surprising to discover it is another anti-establishment load of tripe.

The GM Forum really does nothing for Anglo-Scottish relations. For me, slowly but surely, this forum shapes my opinion of the average Scot and reinforces lots of negative stereotypes. A shame.

I do get our occasionally you know, even been known to visit England two or three times a year.
I think the UK is generally a much safer place and anti social behaviour much improved from my youth of high crime, razor gangs, teddy boys and mods and rocker. Remember that was in the days of conscription for the services, where you were taught respect etc etc.

£50,000,000 is an awful lot of money to teach children how to handle weapons, especially as there is only about 350 bases in the UK
Equates to around £140,000 per base.

Ive never been a fan, preferred the scouts myself however handling weapons is not something they do very often. The last conscript left in 63 so the last one signed on must have been around 1960 so if you were a teenager then you are starting to clock the years on.

Gang crime in major cities like Manchester, Birmingham and London is a real problem. Try walking around some of the sink estates at night.

If you think the Cadet Services do nothing more than handle weapons then why not pop along to a Unit one evening and see what really goes on. These youngsters can learn to sail, do outward bounds, play in bands, learn to fly, first aid and so much more and in most cases for a £1 a week.

Most of the things you mention, and many more, are available through the Scouts, BB and Duke of Edinburgh associations.

I am quite aware that they are available to cadets, but I am also aware that many join the cadets because they can dress up like soldiers and get to handle guns.

If you cant be bothered to find out what actually happens at Cadet Units then you speak from ignorance and as such you do have issues!
