State Sponsored Child Soldiers

Why don't you stop constantly whining about our, yes our government and go and play some golf or something. It's becoming tiresome.

I suggest you scroll down and read the comments from Sandy the former Quartermaster.
Uncomfortable reading eh?

But there's a lot more positive comments than Sandy's, and from people with involvement, why not point those out……

Is the correct answer.

As many of you know, I am a Scout Leader. ( Another paramilitary organisation???)

Doing something like Scouts / CCF (Combined Cadet Force) is not about child soldiers, that is absolute balderdash, It is about giving the young people opportunities and activities to develop personal responsibility, self reliance, respect and self motivation. In a safe secure, structured environment whilst having a shedload of fun.

Young people who have been exposed to these organisations, stand out from the crowd,They are the "Go Getters " of their generation. they are more likely to get a decent job as a result.

In 2 weeks we are taking 30 scouts (10-14) and 20 Explorers (14-18) on a 2 week camp to The Black Mountains in Wales. We have a field and a tap. Activities include D of E Hikes ( Bronze Silver & Gold) , Gliding, Caving, Rock Climbing, Sailing, Pony Trekking, Archery. We are also helping out at the Llanthony Show on 1st August.
The young people live in their patrols, they cook and wash and bond as a group, Shortcuts are picked up easily and the emphasis is on "Doing Your Best". At the end of camp these young people can hold their heads up with pride.

Im afraid DFT's remarks are more than irritating, they show a complete misunderstanding of what it going on, Yes some will follow through and join the Army, we have some scouts who do that,
I really despair sometimes

Youth Organisations like the Cadet Forces, Scouts, Boys Brigade etc provide young people of all backgrounds and especially those from poorer families with life changing opportunities. These organisations can give young people so much enjoyment and adventure. It saddens me that people like Doon can belittle their achievements for what seems nothing less than some kind of pathetic attempt to boost his own ego. Sadly a new all time low from him.

I agree, maybe he (Doon) prefers watching them on street corners eyeing up their next victim due to their boredom so he can then report what bad parents are out there and how our kids are being neglected as there's noting for them to do, he should be renamed Doom as that's all he see's, what a pathetic shallow......oh I'll have to stop because I've been a good boy lately!

The Cubs and then Scouts was my first insight and gave me the direction to go in the forces, I was hopeless at school and only destined for a life of crime! Leaving school with no grades to speak of if it wasn't for the Scouts and going on trips and being taught about self-discipline, loyalty and respect, strong leadership, teamwork and resilience I was clearly only inline for the scrapheap!

This is a pathetic title from the OP with no forethought what so ever of where it can help so many youngsters to better themselves from all walks of life where their opportunities otherwise would be minimal, if it just makes 1 kid better to go on to better things, its money well spent IMO and I hope it gets rolled out even more..

God I'm angry now.....

Doon's thinking may not be as crazy and outrageous as it might first appear. The Combined Cadet Force has long been a breeding ground for future military officers. You cannot argue with that ... it's a fact. Only recently, General John Allen (Retd.), now the top American official in the anti-IS coalition, suggested that defeating IS may take a generation or more. Hot on the heels of that startling analysis comes a UK Government initiative to considerably expand the number of CCF recruitment centres and that's a bit too much of a coincidence in my opinion. It is not beyond the realms of possibility that the UK Government has taken heed of what General Allen has said and is making moves to nurture the next generation of military officers in anticipation of the long haul. Cannon fodder can be recruited at any time but leadership skills take time to develop.

... although quite where the Scouts and Boys Brigade come into it, I have absolutely no idea.

CHILD SOLDIERS? really is this what they are? im afraid not i was never a member of this association but am a proud momber for the armed forces and I can see the huge benefits a couple of nights a week like this would have on the youngsters participating. Very few actually go on to join the forces however the discipline, loyalty, courage, respect integrity and respect they learn are life skills.

Fish youll recognise these standards

i agree that the title is probably wrong it should be more like dod recruiting early

but he has a point a fish actually demonstrates by the way he decided to go into the forces after finding scouts to his liking

always suspicious of any policy or program that uses the likes of libor fines as justification to fund it it signals to me that it would not be justifiable otherwise

cadets at my school actually encouraged a bullying approach in many areas

I didn't understand any of that!

I learned loyalty, courage, respect, integrity oh and honesty before I left school at 15.

I also learned not to bully or sexually abuse folk.

Good point, let's get rid of those organisations with history of bullying and/or sexual abuse.

That's the church, schools, hospitals, the BBC (I know you don't like the BBC so this is a good thing for you!), and the military where there have been cases of these in the papers. Anything else you want gone?
