• We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas from all at Golf Monthly. Thank you for sharing your 2025 with us!

St Annes Old Links

Played here yesterday, absolutely loved the course and the weather stood up for us. Have a very red forehead as an added bonus!

Unfortunately stuck behind a society so play was very slow but as I'm sat here now I want to go right back & play.

Looking at these Opens. Can I book now on proviso I will have a handicap? Should have cards in by end of the month??

Hmm...

Depends what your handicap is, each competition has a handicap requirement. If you go to the SAOL website, there is a link to the competition entry forms which specify the handicap and the conditions which say an active handicap and verified certificate must be presented.

Possibly mate. I would just get the handicap asap. If your handicap is over the threshold i.e 20 and its max 18 just email them and ask if you can play but just off 18. With a bit of luck you will have your hcap by end of next week.

Me and Gregbwfc off here are off at 9:10AM.

I have a mate who is a member at St Annes Old Links and he invited me down one Friday after work, I think it must have been August last year - remember THAT summer 2012. Anyway the weather didn't look too bad at first, but then thick cloud came in and the heavens opened and the course completely flooded, we got through about 8 holes I think and retreated to the clubhouse. We were thinking of going back out but the rain was relentless and the course just couldn't cope with the amount of water that came down, I took some pictures as we fled the course! :D

As others have said the greens are in mint condition, I think the course was used for the Open qualifiers last year. I'm a fan of the bump and run shot and the other thing I remember is that the fairways are lightning fast but also flat and true, I had to take so much off those shots otherwise I'd fly right through the target green. I play on a parkland course and its great to try the different challanges of a Links course. My mate came down to play at my course over Easter and I should really get together with him and try St Annes again one Friday afternoon after work as its only about 15 minutes from my workplace.

I'll call them tomorrow and ask them about my 19.2 although I hope to have that further down by then ;) If OK with them, I'll play in this

Added bonus that the CSS will normally be above Par so an extra shot or 2 up your cuff also

Will be a nice change for me as its usually 2 under par at Davyhulme. I know its obviously an easier course etc but it feels like you have to burn it up to get a cut :D

Fish, Can I have your 1.2 to go with my 6.3. I just need another 2.0 from somewhere else then I will be in.....:whoo:

Nice work mate, thats another qualifier in the diary for you

Looking at last years results its gonna be a tester :D

I played in last year Scott and the weather was horrendous hence the high scores, I think I had a net 79 and finished 7th.
About half the field NR'd.

Another 2 qualifiers and you'll be off 7 anyway

Shut up You!!!!:D

12 more comps and I'll be back up to 8, the way I'm playing!:( I may be up there by the time it comes to September.

If you did 12 more qualifier comps at your place would it be 2015 or 2016?:whoo:
