I found this statement online referring to SSS adjustment, surely they meant downwards by 1 not upwards? Or am I missing something?

"If the setup of the golf course (tees forward) results in the overall yardage being reduced by over 100 yards the SSS of the golf course is amended upwards by 1 for the competition. The CSS is then calculated relative to this amended SSS."

Yes, that's an error. The SSS is reduced or increased by 1 stroke depending on whether the measured course is reduced or increased by more than 100 yards. [Clause 13 of the CONGU Manual]

Additionally, if this is done, the Area Authority or National Union has to be informed and reasons given.

When you say you found it online, you don't mean the CONGU online manual. That is quite specific about alteration up or down by one stroke.

That’s what I thought cheers, our course has actually reduced SSS by 1 due to it playing shorter because of temporary repairs.

Panicked a bit when I stumbled across a golf course/ society publishing the wrong information.
