played today in a medal, I know I was gonna miss comps for a while but decided to not worry about the score as after last weeks episode with the yips etc it couldnt get any worse. Well my score was over 100 with 6 oob's off the tee. 5 with driver and one with an iron on a par 3 (all the drives were pulled left grrrr). So that was 12 shots effectively wasted. I also had a few crap lies and the odd duff so still plenty to work on to gain a bit more consistency.

Overall I felt I hit some blinding tee shots long and straight, irons were very good, chipping done me proud on numerous occasions and holed a few putts, even had a chip in birdie & nearest the pin on 170yd par 3.

don't get me wrong I know 100+ is not great but it was a mile away in terms of ball striking and positives compared to the last few weeks.

Would you rather play crap and nobble a decent score or play well and yet the score doesnt reflect it?

its a funny game :)

If you manage a decent score, not really sure you can play crap, unless you're crazy lucky. Or you have a skewed view of a decent score?

Sort that driving out Gibbo, sounds like it's killing you! Have you thought of changing from the closed face on the driver? That must be helping the ball go left?

Monthly medal today. Came in with net 74 (+4) with SEVENdouble bogies

My driver was the main culprit on the front nine but I just seemed to chuck silly shots away on the back nine. I went out in 40 (+5) including two doubles, and then threw doubles at 12, 13 and 14. The only real bad shot I hit though was a top of the 18th into the environmental area (OB) in front of the tee. In all my years playing the course I have never done that. What can I say. Crap shot and rightly punished. If even three of these doubles were a single bogey then I'd have been level par. Such a stupid game

101 off 15 but in buffer? What is the par of the course? Sounds my kind of place.

Just added to my string of buffers with an on handicap round. Didnt drive well but scrambled around the green well with 28 putts inc a 3 putt in there. Driver and woods just wouldnt get going though.

my 4 others were

Par5 -- 9
Par4 -- 9
Par4 -- 9
Par4 -- 14 (dont ask!)

When rounded down to net Doubles then thats 89 for Handicapping purposes. CSS is usually 73, somtimes 74 which by my calculation means no increase. although I could be wrong

Handicap is worked out stableford so your others all equate to 0 points. 36 points is a nett par round so anything under that would rely on CSS going up but then only a few points max under so 35 to 39 is buffer I think, but if you were nearly double over handicap then its a 0.1 increase unless reduction only.

The other 14 holes added up to 34 points, which for cat 3 should be the buffer zone.

Doesn't sound daft to me Gibbo been suffering this issue all year long, last medal a week ago I had 12 pars, 1 birdie and 5 don't asks! Missed buffer by a mile as a result and in those 5 holes I can't even say I played them all that badly but the numbers don't lie!

Frustrating game but keep plugging away mate.

glad you are getting on with the chipping.

my youngest nephew was visiting me this weekend. I gave him a chipping lesson yesterday. he has got the technique down now. he just needs to work on choosing the right club and judging the roll out. he was chipping a lot better today!
