This is more of an observation on my own part than anything else....It may or may not help others that are learning the game but it might interest some......
As most know i started a course of 8 lessons last November and had the last of them about 3 weeks ago....Im still working away on the swing but im just wondering would this one thought pretty much stop someone swining on the wrong plane.....
When i first went to my Pro everything seemed to be ok with me from his point of view with regards to the fundamental things like Posture, ball position, Grip, Stance Width, Back Swing,....All the positions i seemed to get into in the backswing were fine....My trouble was at the transition and then into the downswing.....
Basically my problem was starting at that point.....So we set about changing that....It took the best part of 5 months and a hell of a lot of frustration and discipline to stick with it but iv come out the better end.....
One thought that i always held from a lesson was to swing straight down the line feeling like that if i let the club go id throw it straight down the fairway i was aiming at and finish higher at the other side of the swing......Now before people jump all over me and say that its totally wrong to do that (Ye are completely entitled to yer opinions ) this was just a feeling movement..... On my part i was actually doing it..... But it worked!
Iv been thinking a lot about that lately and i think that it may help someone thats slicing the ball with an out to in swing path....... In my opinion its practically impossible to swing across a ball if you feel like you want to throw the the club down the fairway straight in front of you.....Not left of you and Not right of you......
One other point i would make is to have a visual aid like a bag or a cane stuck in the ground about half a clubs length outside the left leg for right handed swingers..... Or the reverse if your a leftie.....
I would also make a case in point that Posture, Grip, Stance and Ball position are fine...These are things that are in my opinion relatively easy to sort especially as it only takes a few moments in a mirror at home every night to do.
Im aware that there are heaps of drills and videos about how to fix a slicers swing but i think that there are so many out there its easy to get muddled up with them......
Again this is just my thoughts on it but it may help someone that struggling to change a swingpath issue.
