Slow Play!!!!

Fair play to the old fella! Hope I'm still in good enough Nick to get round at that age! But invariably, older guys will take longer to get round, it makes sense. They can do a lot to speed themselves up, like numerous other members do! Cheers William, I'll keep that in mind!

Sorry GMAC but I'm a vet and go round with other, not ancient but older guys and it's absolutely not true that that " invariably" we take longer to get round. In a comp a couple of weeks ago we let a much younger group through when we lost a ball, they were all single figure guys and we waited on every shot when they insisted on picking and placing tap ins and the like. Slow play is the people not the age!

Being retired I mostly play golf during the week when many other senior golfers play. It is extremely rare for a round of golf to take more than 4 hours, even when there are a lot of fourball groups out there. The rounds at weekends, when the younger working folk come out to play often take over 5 hours. Teenage players often seem to be the slowest and are often less fit than the OAP's. One I played with recently was gasping if he had to walk up the slightest slope, and that was using an electric trolley! They also seem to ape the slow play and endless pre-shot routines of the Tour Pros, as seen on TV. I am sure that Tournament play should be speeded up just to set a good example!

Almost every time I play in a club comp my group ends up losing ground on the group in front, but I'm not sure why this is.

The obvious theory would be that it's because of me, but I do do the right things (select my club early, or at least quickly; put my bag on the correct side of the green; be ready to play when it's my turn; mark the scorecard at the next tee rather than on the green; when practical I line up my putt while others are putting; and I don't take lots of practice swings). Against me is that I'm not very good so my extra shots inevitably take up extra time, but still...

And yet the group behind rarely ends up waiting, so perhaps I've just been unlucky in the sense that the group in front just happens to be very quick every time I go out!

I think its funny how no-one admits slow play yet i have played in a group infront and beyond two forum users that have commented on this thread and they are sloooooooow and definitely what i would consider an offender

As I remember it, you didn't exactly race round Woodhall Spa last year.

Now tell me again what was the average time for a round in the Forums Help for Hero's day:o

You cannot bring age or gender into slow play.
But .......as a rule of thumb when I stopped playing the fastest players were the women/girls closely followed by the old guys who had played from an early age. Slowest were old guys who started playing after 1990 and teenagers.

And of course overweight waddlers.

Being as you rased it.

You are one of the offenders i have mentioned . You played infront of us whilst we waited on every tee and fairway. By the 14th (i think) you waved us through as "once again " you was holding us up. We tee'd off, but before we got to our balls on the fairway you hit your shots and continued holding us up for the entire round. The group behind us was even commenting on your pace of play.

You are a slow golfer.

Absolute cobblers.

So are you saying you didn't walk from the rough to the fairway and wave us through? Then stand there as "daveboy" sailed one over your head? . You and your group carried on and left us on the fairway saying to each other " are they for real! They've just waived us through and carried on infront "

We need more of these revelations.

Have you enough popcorn there Ted ?

Like i said

Many few admit to being slow

This spat highlights the whole reaction to being called slow.
When you ask to go through almost invariably an argument occurs.
I obviously do not know the ins and outs of the difference of opinion above but rosecott,s well argued reply makes me think he could have been in the wrong.
