I Played today as a single on my local course, there was 2 ladies in front who was playing slow but as soon as I caught up with them they let me through had a quick chat and off I went. I then caught the next group up and same they let me through straight away. Then things went sour, I caught the next 4 ball and they wouldn't let me through, they was all looking for a ball in the woods and had an opportunity to wave me through but instead just ignored me. It was a lovely day so I wasn't too fussed I just thought I'll enjoy the weather. I played another 4 holes like this then on the 9th one of them said in a sarcastic tone "you know you can always play up the 12th if we are holding you up". Now bear in mind there wasn't anyone in front of them so they could easily have let me through, Playing up the 12th is an option but you end up missing 2 holes unless you want a long walk. I live about 5 minutes from the course so I just couldn't be bothered at this point and decided to only play 8 and call it quits.

How do you guys find it when playing as a single, 90% of people seem really good and let you through but there is always that one group that for some reason wont.

Unfortunately these people haave an effect which is out of proportion but it spoils the game for many at a time when we want to attract mor n the sport.

Thats a lot of people whose rounds you are delaying by expecting them to keep letting you through. Do you really think it is right to slow others down to facilitate your faster play ?

You can play through without slowing anyone down eg while your looking for a ball as stated in my original post. Also why not drive off at the same time or play your iron shots in together. I think its just using a bit of common sense when there is an opportunity. I don't expect a group in front to wait for me to put out on the tee lol

No, two groups who let you through who werent looking for balls, but had to wait for you, delaying their rounds, while you played through.

Actually I drove off with the ladies and they said they wont reach with their second shot anyway so all was good. The second group I also drove off with and they had to wait 30 seconds for me to take my second shot. Hardly a drama eh?

Also if i'm in a 4 ball and someone catches as a single I let them through because sure I might wait 1-2 mins max but they will have to wait much long behind.

I wont argue with you because its like giving medicine to the dead :)

Delayed by about a minute and a half I suspect.....
How long do you think it takes for a single player to play through any size group..?
And, unless there is a course rule, a single player has then same standing as a group of 4.
Faster groups should be let through - especially if there is nobody in front of the group...

Personally in casual play and irrespective of what I'm playing of whatever the format is, then if a quicker format is behind me or my group I / we will happily let them through.

What on earth is the problem?

Don't see why they didn't let you play through especially if they were looking for their ball and if no-one was in front of them.

As another poster said the four ball would have been delayed a couple of minutes at the most, unless you lost your ball and went looking 😋

That's exactly how I feel, but it's clearly evident from posts in this thread and on course actions that some don't feel this way!

Yes, it's called etiquette. Let groups through who are playing faster than you and that includes a single players.

I think you missed a trick personally.

You could have responded by saying "you could always let me play through you seen as I'm on my own"

Had exactly the same issue at my club the other evening. On my own and caught a group of 4 on the fourth and had to wait behind them for the rest of the front nine. I would have held them up for no more than two minutes if they had let me through.

i totally agree the 4ball shoulda waved ya through ,

i see it in our place tho , you go out in a group a single comes up behind , ya let them through , next hole same happens , third hole the same , it gets fair annoying i tell ya..
