SkyGolf GameTracker

I really like My GG and would rate at 9/10.

Re tags, you get 18 with the kit and they are tough / robust. GG will replace the odd one if you do manage to break one and I noticed they have recently launched an add on of a complete second set for folks who have two sets of clubs etc so should be available here soon enough.

S

I would agree with this.

Interesting. SkyGolf actually announced a similar product about 3 years ago. It was supposed to be an add-on to the SGX at the time, but they never got it to market.

Loads of complaints on the SkyGolf forum at the time iirc.
Yes they were marketed as smart tags, and loads of people including me bought an sgx on that basis. Then they backtracked. I think they launched it this year to try and retain customer base.

So not really a rip off of game golf, just something they waited on launching, I imagine they will have better stats available and a bit more accurate due to the ground mapping rather than sat or aeriel mapping.

If the price is right I might1 give it a go, but waiting to see what the reviews and accuracy are like.

Suspect the device is due soon.

Skygolf have just updated the SkyMobile app to include GameTracker functionality.

Just checked SkyGolf website but product is not listed as yet.

Always good to have competition and hope GG will up their game (spare tags for sale would be a start) and get more stats and functionality. Wouldn't want to be looking at stats on the go or straight on a tablet in the bar. That's for a drink and banter and more than happy to download and reflect when I get home

Looks like it's released in the US now.

$229, so I expect £229 when it hits the UK.

From what I can see the main difference between GameTrack and GameGolf is that GameTrack also uses the GPS receiver to make your smart phone a more accurate GPS rangefinder. So basically a SkyCaddie Touch on your phone. Obviously non-confirming for comps.

So the USP for Game Golf over Skygolf is that it can be used in comps, which for me (if I didn't already have Game Golf) would be a deal breaker.

Probably around 90% of my golf is in competition, not much point in stat tracking if it doesn't include the majority of your golf.

If I understand it the shot tracking can be, but the GPS Rangefinder bit on the phone part can't be.

I had considered waiting for the SkyCaddie when looking at devices about one month ago. I opted for GG and I am glad I did, considering that:-

- "Out of the bag" results will never be perfect and there is some editing required to make a round match perfectly what was actually played. That swift PC-based activity would be slow and painful on a mobile device;
- Mobile phone batteries take enough of a battering without the need to have the app/GPS running for a round of golf for the purposes of allowing SkyCaddie to function;
- SkyCaddie's solution is likely to cost almost double what I paid for GG.

Agree with Westy that the shot tracking on GG must be available in competitions but, as is said, the in-app rangefinder is not. No difference between SkyCaddie (if it offers rangefinder functionality) and GG in that regard.

I think that's the point of the external GPS. It doesn't use the on-board GPS on the phone so doesn't kill the battery. Just uses Bluetooth to 'sync' the data to your phone as you play. As I understand it.

Not sure if you must have your phone with you for it to work or not or if it will work standalone like the GG system.

Apologies, I meant Bluetooth (if indeed it does need to be on) in addition to GPS (for rangefinder purposes).

It's been a long day...
