Saw this piece of kit on Twitter last night as it has been exhibited on at the PGA Trade Show this week.

It appears to be a very similar device to the GameGolf system i.e. you add sensors to your golf clubs and then carry round a sensor which 'tags' your shots. The main difference between this system and the GG one is that it doesn't require any plugging into computers etc so the results are pretty much instantaneous. This will be either on your smartphone as your plod round or on your tablet in the bar after the round.

No idea on what the cost/release date is going to be but further details are here:

Wonder how much, guess they'll have to pitch it around the gg.

looks great! Its a good thing for GameGolf users as it means GameGolf will need to step its game up and improve at a much faster pace.

Yip. Competition is always good for the consumer. I'm sure GG will add lots of new features now.

Have to say I don't like the illustrated golf course look, though. It's a bit MickeyMouse compared to actually seeing the course on Google Earth in the way GameGolf does.

Quite cool that you can view your data as you go round. But other than that it's a Game Golf rip-off. Wondered how long it'd be before one came out.

I actually think that the ability to see your data whilst you go round is quite distracting (and takes up time).

I used to do that with GolfShot GPS on my iPhone, often looking at GIR stats etc whilst I went round. Simply concentrating on the next shot, rather than contemplating what you've already done (and what can't be changed) is usually better for the frame of mind.

I've found that with GameGolf I'm not even counting my score now. Yesterday was a good example. Pleasantly surprised with the score when I uploaded my round when I got home.

i have to agree, i keep forgetting my score which is strange for me!

Yip. My bad habit is overthinking my rounds during them anyway.

My recent system (with my handicap) was to try to score no more than +2 for each stretch of 6 holes. If I was better than that I'd get ahead of myself. If I was worse than that I'd get annoyed. Now I just don't care.

GG now has me thinking "hit this fairway, "hit this green", "make this putt". Probably a better system in the long term.

I have found, in the short time I have used it, that I am concentrating on trying to execute the shot and take my time a little more rather than grip and rip. Now that everyone has the ability to view my round...I don't want to look a complete idiot on the mappings!!

well interestingly, last time i played after 6 holes i was saying to myself, 'need to hit at least 12 greens to take the lead in the challenge' it really helped!

Wabinez, The speed merchants are gonna love you. Strange how a piece of techno has changed your way of thinking of playing the game and that its now (not saying it wasn't in the first place) about your score/stats rather then speed of play. There is a great deal of satisfaction to gain by taking a little longer in your shot selection and executing that shot. You should see and by sounds of it a new focus to your game. I bet your scores will become lower and lower. Good luck

I saw that Tweet also.
I have some dosh to spend next month & I love gizmos!!!
I am considering Game Golf.
Is the consensus that it is.
Just OK?
Average?
Good?
Outstanding?

What if you lose / break any tags, do you get spares with the initial kit?
Are spare tags readily available at a reasonable cost?

Interesting. SkyGolf actually announced a similar product about 3 years ago. It was supposed to be an add-on to the SGX at the time, but they never got it to market.

Loads of complaints on the SkyGolf forum at the time iirc.

I use my Gamegolf generally when I'm playing in comps as that's the time when I'm trying my hardest and putting out etc. If this device is giving instant information I assume it's not legal for use in competitive golf and therefore not much use to me

I really like My GG and would rate at 9/10.

Re tags, you get 18 with the kit and they are tough / robust. GG will replace the odd one if you do manage to break one and I noticed they have recently launched an add on of a complete second set for folks who have two sets of clubs etc so should be available here soon enough.

If it gives results on the course does that make it illegal for competition use?

I would imagine so.

big flaw surely? If I have understood the smartphone / DMD issue correctly (and I may not as it does not affect me), then just the capability this offers via the app, means you can't use your phone as a basic GPS in a comp with this loaded? Doh!
