Yeah that's all fine, & I never refer to The Open as anything else, but you sort of missed the point (which I later acknowledged potentially wasn't that well made). The reference to the PGA Championship was made because whenever a discussion arises regarding Majors there is usually someone who suggests that there should be a fifth, or that the PGA championship is the lesser of the four and could be easily moved to another country, something that I suspect the PGA of America would be quite reluctant to see happen.
As for your main point, The PGA of America might disagree with you regarding their title if you were to call them the US PGA and their Championship generally goes without a prefix as it was the first, being inaugurated in 1916.
This is similar to calling The Open the British Open.

The PGA of America, are representing the country of the US.
So when you stated:
"In the same way that there is no good reason for moving the PGA Championship, which is run by the PGA of America, to anywhere but America."
Did you mean anywhere but the US, or anywhere but America?
Hosting the PGA Championship in say Canada or Mexico might not be that different a question to the one posed in the OP. Hence seeking the clarification.
Anyway back to Ireland....
