Anyone who wants to try the standard 4 or 5 shafts need only go to their local pro shop which has a fitting cart. I was at one today, and you can try a number of standard and custom shafts free of charge.

There is no £40 charge is not a supplement for an exotic shaft, but that fee covers a 90 minute fitting session. If you don't think it is worth it, don't book it. Have a quicker fitting at a local shop with a cart.

And Ping are not a big company? Seriously? Ping? Isn't that the company which used to have the most expensive clubs bought by well off people who wanted to buy a status bag?

Titleist is actually a golf ball company which just happens to do clubs too.

Ethan I agree that would be the ideal solution however World of Golf in Glasgow do not have a Titleist fitting cart yet, in their words, not mine they have asked Titleist on numerous occasions for a cart and Titleist are stalling. They have been promised one but Titleist wont give them a date for it.

I am going to order the 910 as I really liked it, launch angle etc was spot on the ball flight was lower the carry distance was up, dispersion was good etc. My grype is Titleist (you do not agree and I appreciate your view) in my opinion are "at it" by charging me £40 on top of the sale of the club to put my mind at ease that the Aldila RIP is the best shaft option for me!

£250 for me with a young family, rising bills etc is a lot out of my disposable income and I would like to be 100% certain for that amount of money I have the best club available and ensure I'm not wanting to try another shaft 6 months down the line. You and McMaster me be far more financially secure and can justify the additional £40 but for me I see it as a bit of a boot in the chuckies by a huge company! As I say £290 would equate to a nice weekend away for me and the family.

The guy that did mine was superb, employed by Titliest and he couldn't do enough for you. Had some great stories to tell and was very knowledgeable and helpful.

I was there a total of 2 hours which was well over my allocated time but the whole time I was there the only other person I saw at the whole place (not just the range)was Sky pundit Neil McCann.

Different companies work different ways. Mizuno don't charge for their custom fit, whatever shaft they suggest they put in at the same price and they will put whatever grips you want, all included. With Titleist, my irons were a price, the project x shafts were about £10 per club extra and the multi compound grips I had were extra too.

For Mizuno to be able to do it all in the same price and for Titleist to charge extra for the changes suggest to me that there is likely to be more profit in the Mizuno clubs in the first place, or one is making a much greater profit than the other.

My local pro has the Titleist fitting set up, he can give me a driver to try with different shaft/head combinations but, what he can't do is Trackman and also devote 1.5 hours to making sure that I get exactly the best spec for me. I personally don't expect to get the club at a discounted price and have the type of service given at Titleist Cambridge but if I am happy for my local guy to set up a club, alter the set up for me and then sell me a club at £250 then I dont expect 1.5 hours of personal service.

Who mentioned discount???? I have never once mentioned that I want a discount, £250 is the price, I'm happy and willing to pay £250!

I'm not happy or willing to pay £40 for something that I believe should be an industry standard!

I don't know the golf store you are talking about, but my local range, which is a small out of the way one, which I imagine sells a small amount of Titleist stuff, has the cart and the guy said he would give me the spanner and let me bash away.

Obviously Titleist and Mizuno structure their pricing differently, and accept the consequences for customer perception of their brands.

I am sure there must be a place somewhere around Glasgow where you can demo one properly.

Is there not a bit of a difference between a full custom fit by titleist and trying out the club ( and shaft) you already know you want?
I'd hazard a guess if you asked any titleist stocker to try the stick in question with 50 balls on the understanding you pretty much already know you want it, they'll tape it up and let you have a go.
Pretty sure the KA guys would be OK with that.

The price I was quoted, I believe, was £299, that is also Direct Golf's current internet price. So £250 is a discounted price and coincidentally at the rrp you have saved your £40!

I wonder with this change towards charging for custom fit, whether the manufacturers will hold less and less demo days, where there's no way I would've thought, they could charge.

To draw a line under it.

ORDER PLACED! 910 D3, ALDILA RIP 60 STIFF SHAFT 9.5 DEGREE LOFT.

Still think the guys at Titleist are a bunch of chunts though, charging for a CF (in my opinion) is ripping the piss out of it! If I hadn't hit this combo so well I'd have walked away altogether and settled with the Nike Machspeed Black which I also really liked.

If the manufacturers do start charging for custom fit sessions I can see many people not going down that route and simply going into AG and parting with their cash.
With this Titleist driver, it would seem, they want you to be fitted by an expert rather than tweak the settings yourself - or so it says in the blurb.

Surely having a price that includes the custom fit element would make more sense.

Might just go and have a bash with one tomorrow!!

My club has a Titleist demo day every year. You still have the option to go to Brampton for the full monty though.

I have bought Titleist c/f twice, once the cost was swallowed by the pro, and once he charged it to me. Different pro's, one won't get my business again.

Hitting from the demo cart is usually free (even though I think Titleist charge the retailler for the cart).

Having had a c/f driver, I don't think I'd bother with another one. Just find one I'm happy with, and go with that.
I know I need a low spin head, and I know I need a low launching shaft, in stiff (but not too stiff). Any decent pro, or shop assistant should be able to sort me out. If I miss out on a driver that would be 2 yards longer, whoopee. My drives can vary by +/- 40 yards anyway.

If Titleist want to charge, and people pay it, then fine, that's business. You don't have to buy. They don't have to give stuff away just because others do.

Ping c/f might be free, but your Ping c/f driver was pish wasn't it?

No it wasn't pish at all. I was offered the choice of two stock option Ping shafts.

I like yourself need a low spinning head and shaft combo! The Aldila RIP 60 and Titleist head give me that!

I didn't try D2, the lower launching head and low spinning shaft was a must for me!

My spin rate off the driver face was incredible. I am lucky that I actually prefer the look of the D3 anyway.

Craw - all the links you posted are 'online retailers', selling at 'discounted' prices........go see how many Pro Shops will sell you it at £250 ?
They stack 'em high and sell 'em cheap......whereas your Pro will sell them to order, at the RRP, and might well 'include' the cost of the Custom Fit for you.

Thats the way that Titleist prefer, as per their reply to Mike..

Its like someone asking me for honest advice on a holiday destination, perhaps somewhere Ive been to personally to inspect recently, and I give them honest advice and guide them through things to ensure that everything is perfect, - and they then take all my info away to some website and ask for the exact same thing, who then undercut me, and they wonder why i wont discount it to Price match and lose commission ??????

You cant have it all - if you want it as cheap as poss - you must accept some element of risk, and lack of 'free custom fit'.

Or - go buy a Mizuno or Ping, with Free CF.
