I have just read the MGM owned Shadow Creek near Las Vegas has upped its fee to $1000.

It may or maybe a fabulous course, but I'm sticking my neck out and saying that there isn't a course in the world that $700 better than all of those other expensive courses out there. Playing there has got to be for bragging rights rather than just the golfing experience.

After The Green Monkey course opened at Sandy Lane in Barbados, they offered access to non-resort guests at a similar fee. Now hotel guests only.

If you are a wealthy guy who is used to spending tens of thou on a watch or hundreds on a bottle of wine, then this is chickenfeed.

(I don't wear a watch and buy my wine in Tesco).

The number next to the $ is completely irrelevant for the people that get to play there.

America has just got golf wrong, so glad I live in a country where the courses are managed fairly!!
Not all American courses .
Some have great rates for what you get.
But the top ones just charge what they think people will pay.
I have paid $7 for a round on a great course.
And $200 for Sawgrass.
I would not pay $1000 for anywhere!

Sorry, had to make an amendment as I can think of some exceptions this side of the pond :)

When I worked in the City, some of the Traders (not me, sadly) got some amazing bonuses. They'd think nothing of handing over the price of a decent car for a team night out to celebrate.

It is all relative. If money is tight, £25 might be too much!

If Augusta National rang... I am on the next plane! :)

Augusta might be the one. If I had a grand to completely waste, and I wasn't babysitting the grandchildren, I'd definitely consider it.

Thats yanks for you the more expensive it is the better they think it is.
You see it all over the place. When you watch any property programme now, the people on it give their wish list but get shown something that's way bigger than they need/wanted and they instantly think that bigger/more expensive is better.
It's all about the bling/wealth/size/etc

Too much IMO mind you if I win that £66million on Friday I’d do it then why not.

It's only too much when viewed as an average person. I'm sure for many people dropping a month or even a weeks wages on one round of golf is out of the question. Don't forget that you also need to be staying at one of the suites in the MGM.

As you say. If you had £66million in the bank. A grand on a round of golf would be nothing.

To the people who get to play here the green fee is likely to be an irrelevant number. They probably don't even know how much it is. Someone else will have organised and paid for it on there behalf.

Most of the people playing there will save a fortune- 5 hours away from the casino!
