I have read that Sergio is taking the rest of the year off.

I have to say personally that I think this is a great move for him as having watched his play since the open play-off defeat to Harrington, it is clear that his confidence is shot to pieces when it comes to the flat-stick.

I like Sergio, I sincerely hope that he gets his putting back on track and comes back stronger than ever in the new year.

So often people who have developed the putting yips never quite get it back, Langer's putting went to rat-sh!t for a period but he got it back, as did Woosie so here's hoping Sergio can do the same!

I just hope that Monty can get putting well again. I know he isn't everyboody's cup of tea but tee-green he is still one of the best in the world in my eyes.

Hi jon.
I have to agree with you about sergio. He is one of my favourites too.
If only he could sort his putting out.Last year i went to the WGC at the grove on practice day and comp day on the friday. We followed him for his round on practice day he was in a 4ball with luke donald, ian poulter& david howell. He was absolutly awesome from tee to green and his putting was better than normal leaving us thinking he was going to do some damage on competiton day.(i even got him to sign my scotty cameron garcia headover).

On the friday we watched him and from tee to green he was unreal but putting was shocking.
It just makes you wonder if he will ever win a major.

As for monty i would say he has had his chances and cant see him getting back to winning ways.

I have some great pics of the day at the grove if any one collects them.

Can he fix his putting in 6 weeks? or is this a general lay-off? For such a talent, I hope he can find some confidence. Perhaps Mickelson can help him out (pigs, flying, all that jazz). Interesting to consider that when Phil won the Masters he was in such a positive state of mind. Maybe some time with a sports psychologist could be the answer, hard to believe his technique is not well honed.

Think you have a point there Dave, I really do think that the playoff ruined him mentally, something like that can haunt a man for a long time.

When I used to play a high standard of pool I missed an easy black for £1000 1st prize and my confidence was devastated.

The only thing I can identify that is wrong with his technique is that he is sometimes bring the putter forward with a slightly open face hence pushing the ball to the right. If you are mentally not right this can easily happen.

Whoa....you played pool.... me too. I got hustled one day at a club in Central London and never played again. I won a serious final once and started to get nervy at about 6 games up. Thankfully, I got over the line with 4 8 balls in a row.
I took up Golf instead and for me, it's much better for the soul. Golf is you against the course, sure you lose if you play someone better, but at least they can't tie up your game.....I know you'll understand this one.

Loved it, but oh, the nerves.

He's ill-mannered, immature and spoilt and a bad example to young golfers. Until he grows up a bit he'll not get it done on the course. In 06 and 07 Opens he's blown up big style when the pressure is on from a combo of impatience, arrogance and a desire to show off at any opportunity.
That business of "when I hit the flag it goes 30 feet and when others hit the flag it only goes 3 feet" was particularly petty. Gobbing in the cup kinda sums this guy up, talent or no talent. His gubbing by Stewart Cink at the last Ryder Cup singles was good for him and chopped him down a bit, which he badly needed.

OK! Next time I have a tantrum or lose my temper on the course, I'll just tell my partners, ''Sorry guys, just one of my idiosyncracies''.

I'm not blowing my own trumphet here but this year was a real change for me My confidance was of such a high state that at times I felt that the guys I was playing against where wasting their time. In our club championship I was joint leader after the 1st round, so we went out in the 2nd round acording to scores. Now thats a real test of nerves. It turned out like a matcholay game but in the back of our minds we knew we had to shoot gross scores. I went 2 shots behind at the 1st hole I thought panic, but then my confidance kicked in but the 9th hole I was 3 up. Having said this by the time we reached the 16th tee I was 4 shot ahead.. Then bang I took a 7 and the guy closest to me made 4, yes a 3 shot swing I found myself just 1 in front with 2 to go. Panic here we go again I thought. Typical me. But with inner confidance and knowing in my mind that I was playing the golf of my liffe I kinda knew that I could do it. I birdied the 17th to go 2 infront again then I birdies the 18th to win by 3 shots. Confidance was a big factor for me this year knowing that I could do it. Even after losing 3 shots on the 1 hole I still had something telling me that I could win. Any other year I'd of fell away and lost....
I think Sergio will bounce back as he is a very confidant guy and I love watching him play....

He is a confident character, and if he can hole some putts soon, will bounce right back.

When he was younger he putted extremely well. Maybe time to get his old putter out, and annoy his equipment sponsors (who can't be that happy, as he makes their current putters look rubbish).
