Scottish Fitba'

I take it that you did not watch the games

Again it’s irrelevant, would you rather they play lovely football and lose ?

Sometimes a team does play poorly, qualifiers aren’t great most of the time because the key thing is getting a result , performances at times aren’t great and the manager will prob have a moan - but fans booing when they win and get close to qualifying - maybe it’s an expectation level issue

Why would Scotland fans be booing their own team when they are winning and looking like qualifying for the World Cup 🤷‍♂️
I wasn't booing - but I was shouting at the TV in frustration (my wife told me to stop as I might have a heart attack  ❤️ ) and could easy understand the booing - perhaps more directed towards the management and coaching than the players themselves.

The performance was just awful - and as the game went on it seemed to get worse. I'll never, ever, boo Scotland as I support Scotland as much as, if not more than, my club...because for much of Scottish football beyond the OF, the Scotland team is our main source of hope and glory.

I mean, if ever there was an open goal for a comment, it's this :ROFLMAO:. However, keep the faith 🫣

Just for those of you clearly confused, Scotland are nowhere near qualifying for the World Cup in 2026.

Based on the results to date and the games remaining, they need to win their last 2 games to qualify. Even if they beat Greece in Greece in their next game, Denmark will easily beat Belarus which means Scotland also need to beat Denmark at Hampden in the last game.

Going off of recent results and form, that is extremely unlikely, and 2nd in the group only guarantees one of 16 spots in the play-offs with only 4 places up for grabs in the WC proper, so 4 more games for Scotland to negotiate when they finish 2nd to Denmark if they are to qualify.

Scotland were always going to need the Play Offs to make it through realistically.

Not sure if Clarke is the right main to take them forward though, a very negative and depressing manager and personality. He managed Reading for a bit and almost got us to the FA Cup Final but was sacked within a year.

Never been a critic of Clarke, but when I compare his personality with that of Simo Valakari, the relatively new St Johnstone manager…worlds apart.

The thing is Valakari is engaging and has got the fans onboard and enthusiastic…even when winning or drawing with a poor performance. He is able to be realistically critical of a performance, and has been of late, without being dour and miserable, and without being hyper negative of specific player performances.

Of course easy to say at the moment when results are going well on the pitch…but we could say the same about Scotland’s results.

Were St.J fans saying this last year about Valakari?

If Scotland doesn't win the group they will not qualify. Its unlikely they'll win the next two games. Scotland have a strong midfield but poor up front, struggling for a decent keeper and the centre backs aren't great. Belarus have been pumped by Greece and Denmark whilst Scotland were clinging on in the end.

We were OK with him as he was engaging as described…and we knew he was trying to sort out the mess of the squad he’d been left…the detritus of the post cup double shambles and waste - and as we have come to understand, sort out some real negative and toxic stuff that was going on in the squad. He’s cleared all of that out and got his own team in.
