My daughter wants Sat Nav for her new car, and I was hoping for some recommendations on what's good and what's not. Never had it myself, which will come as no surprise to some, so all help gratefully received. Not looking to pay a fortune. Thanks Rich

We got a fairly cheap Tom Tom one and does the job. Pretty slim (our old one was like a TV stuck to the windscreen) and never let us down.

I've got a garmin.

If you want her to be lost all the time, and driving down bridleways get her a Garmin. If not, Tom Tom have a very good reputation.

I've tried a few including the built in ones for merc and audi, the Tom Tom is far superior, easy to use and just works! TT all the way in my view.

I've got a cheapo garmin that works just dandy.

Also tried the sat nav on the smart phone and it works very well, justs needs a cradle.

I have to agree with the comments on Tom Toms. Both my wife and I have had various Sat Navs both fitted and free standing and nothing comes close to a Tom Tom.

Tom Tom XL, more than happy with mine, I like the way that it confirms the street name after you make a turning, additionally I think the new style of mount is excellent.

I have a boggo standard Tom Tom One and it does the job nicely. Very simple to use and very clear on instructions. My only gripe is it can take a while to find a valid GPS signal when I turn it on sometimes.

I too would recommend Tom Tom. I have had two over the years and the only gripe I have is with the Voice Command, it is as much use as a chocolate fireguard.

Thanks for all the feed back guys. Tom Tom it is then, just need to start searching out a good deal, but sure I can get something for around £100.

Tom Tom for me too. HID manages to find me and pick me up from forum meets etc and so if it can guide a single female driver with their normal driving habits and attention span to the right location it must be pretty good
