Was wondering what the sitaution is regarding the groove change and the sale of old stock.

Do the manufacturers only manufacture the clubs up until the end of the year and continue selling stock until it is sold out. Or must they stop selling them at the end of Dec ??

help please :D

As far as I'm aware they have to stop making them at the end of the year. They can sell them forever but they can't make them.
And you can use them till 2024 at least.

The powers that be have regulated the depth and sharpness of grooves on all clubs shorter than about a 5 iron. Pro Tour player's and big amateur events are already using the new grooves. We don't have to comply with this ruling until 2024 at the earliest so don't worry. If you've got clubs that don't conform now then by 2024 you will have changed them a few times, especially the wedges. It's supposed to make it harder to get loads of spin from the rough, trying to make it more benficial to hit the fairway rather than bomb it 400 yards but be in the rough.

No there are still limits.
The new rule reduces the size of them but the old ones will conform for us. As long as you don't make them bigger you're alright.

There always was a rule to limit the size of the groove.
A year ago the R&A changed the rule to reduce the size of the groove. This is only applicable to Pro and big amateur events. As far as we are concerned, we do not have to conform to this rule change until at least 2024. All clubs made from 2011 have to conform to the new limits. The new rule only effectively applies to clubs from about 27 degrees and beyond, so the 3 iron you've got will still be covered by the old rule. Any clubs made before the end of this year may or may not conform to the new rule. Many will.
Basically, its not going to affect us much at all. I doubt that the majority of golfers could tell the difference between old and new grooves anyway.
It's only going to be an issue in 2024. That's when all old rule grooves will become illegal - much like the driver affair we had a few years back.
To be honest, the vast majority of us will have changed clubs 2 or 3 or more times by then and will have clubs with the new grooves. They've made a big thing about it but as its not going to affect 99.9% of us it's almost a non-story.

I think most manufacturers have or are telling you if the clubs conform to the new rulings or not. I'm guessing if you went out and bought the latest Ping, Cally, Vokey, Cleveland etc wedges they will all be sold compliant with the new rules

Thanks, recently bought a new Vokey, and am hoping to upgrade another two, but will now wait till new year.

The Titleist web site shows two wedges one compliant for pros etc and the other for us mere mortals.
