Sad State Of Football

So what if the other nations are struggling?
Welsh teams play in England, every few months we get the “Old Firm” should be in the English leagues, that’s not exactly helping their own country.

99% of the other fans like, and often rejoice, to see England lose.

Some of the best players in the world are in the EPL.

England are boring to watch, maybe you should watch them and make up your own mind.

The national team has struggled for years for lots of reasons, some of those reasons have and are being adressed and hopefully we are starting to see glimmers of hope.

As for grassroots football, successive governments have closed more pitches and removed sport from the curriculum, not all the blame can be laid at the FA.

Whether we like it or not it’s a business and a very succesful one at that.

Right now I would say English Football is in a decent place, not interested in other countries if England involved, happy (unlike the majority of their fans) to support the other nations if England fail to qualify or get knocked out earlier than them.

I do occasionally watch England games but not much as they are DULL AND BORING so switch off.

Southgate, like previous managers, will be judged by performances at the major championships. He’s qualified for Russia, let’s wait and see

this isnt the true picture, the uefa A available on the continent and actually in Wales is watered down hence why is "name" have fast tracked through the system.
Although volunteers most wanting to start there basic coaching pathway will find a club to pay the initial £150 for a Level 1 course, and most reasonably sized clubs will certainly help with L2 as well. Despite the supposed extreme cost in the UK there is still a big waiting list and battle to get on the UEFA A (which is pro level only by the way) and the UEFA B (cost circa £500)

Spot on. That's how I've done my coaching quals via local club funding.

Re "successive governments closed more pitches." 30-40 years ago if you didn't have a pitch by half four, after school, it was jumpers for goalposts. When was the last time you drove past an area with pitches and saw them full of ad hoc games?

There might be more organised leagues of a weekend, I don't know either way, but with media announcements that the UK is the worst in Europe for obesity I'd be inclined to think there's a large tranche of youngsters who are more interested in Xbox and ipads.

There's more structure to football now then there's ever been but less ad hoc interest(games). I do wonder what the participation rate is, something along the lines of golf where membership has dropped off but there's more nomads.

My prediction.
He’ll do the same as Hodgson did before the last few tournaments. Trot out the impressive young players in the friendlies during the lead up, then go back to type and select the senior players who’ve consistently failed.
I really do hope I’m wrong but I can see it coming, a la Groundhog Day.

Funny you should say that I was thinking exactly the same thing, this could be a turning point for England with the youngsters doing so well,if the managers brave enough to integrate some of these younger players into the senior team.

I genuinely don’t mind losing if the team I support puts in 100% and they are a team, too many times England have failed to turn up as a team and we’ve relied on 2 or 3 players carrying us.

Think it's a shame Pickford is not picked for this game, can't see Southgate can learn anything by playing Hart, this is going to be a tough game for a experimental England team, Brazil look very strong and will probebly win comfortably.

Pickford played in the last game. In this one, they have a couple of older heads at the back to help out. Cahill and Hart as an example. It's good to blood the younger players but you do need some stability.

Against other U17 teams. They'd be lost playing against full men's teams.

Really? Would they? Really? Youth has no fear!!!!!

England draw again 0-0 Boooooooooooooooooo utter rubbish. I don't care if it's Brazil or Germany or whoever. You cannot win games unless you know how to score goals.

Rep Of Ireland? I really though MON would find a way to win. It appears even his powers have long gone.
