This is sad but true and im sure im not the only one guilty. Does any one else agree that it is pathetic but somehow exciting when after you hit a wayward shot and busy looking for it in the deep rough you stumble across a few old balls decaying after months/years of neglect, But then you strike gold, a top of the range ball sitting there as if it was just out of the box smiling at you. You pick it up and realize some poor sod has probably just brought it out of his bag and lost it on his first hole. Theres no outward sign of excitement but inwardly you are secretly rejoicing and get that funny feeling, or maybe not and im on my own and talking bullsh*t..http://forums.golf-monthly.co.uk/images/icons/icon11.png

i have lost my fair amount of new balls so always welcome lost balls that i find into my golf bag + everyone loves a freebie ;o)

If it obviously doesn't belong to anyone then I pocket it. On a society event the other day there was no one on front of us for 30 mins and we were first group so it was finders keepers. A prov1 and a Z-star found its was into my partners bag. Free balls rule!!

With a really great find I often don't even mind losing my own old beaten up TopFlite.

Blob the hole, and on to the next tee with my shiny new Bridgestone.

Funny you should bring this topic up, I was only saying to one of my playing partners the other day, why is it when you find a ball, it's either a Dunlop or a Top Flite

i pick them all up. i give the wee nephew whos only 13 all the old scrappers. hes more than happy to take them off my hands. our course is playing the winter set up which means we play 10 as our 1st. left is a lake, right OB. wind is 9 times out of 10 left to right. mate sticks two OB. i help him retrieve 1 of his balls and find 8 balls. 7 keepers and 1 scapper! well chuffed.

Result. If its a really good day in the summer and quiet on the course me and a few mates head onto the course in our trunks and get lots of balls from the lakes. My course is full of lakes so we have plenty of choice. Its not like we need the balls but it is really good craic.

I do love finding a nice new premium ball, especially if it hasn't been marked.

It seems to be the case that some balls are hard working, loyal and true, hit them where you will, you always find them, then after 3 or 4 rounds they'll do years of service in the practice bag.

Others are lazy and fickle and serve no master. You find them after they've been hit once or twice by the previous owner and within a couple of holes they're gone, nestling down to be found and hit a few times by someone else. May never get to complete a full 18 in their entire layabout lives.

Meant to add

If I hit my ball where the Donnays and Topflites are to be found, I know it's a bad shot.

If it goes where the ProV1s and Z-Stars are then I don't feel so bad.

Best balls so far ive found in 2 yrs ive been playing golf
1 Penta ball, Few Pro V1s, 1 Z star ball, a few burner balls

Its always a nice feeling when you find a reallly good ball

I found 2 pro V1's and a Nike Vapor today! all within about 2 meters of each other..

My Penta on the other hand, could not be found anywhere!! I must have hit it further, maybe 300yrds into the woods.. ;-)

Remarkable...?

I'd say slightly disturbing..................

I'm afraid I can't get excited about finding a golf ball, premium or not. A golf ball is a golf ball as far as I'm concerned and they aren't that interesting
