S-l-o-w play!

What is a Foxes championship?
Foxes are normally mid-handicappers, say 9-19. The low handicappers are Tigers and the high-handicappers are Rabbits. All three groups have an annual championship. Most golf clubs in our area have similar groups, and play matches between them.

I'm a Tiger, that's grrrrrreat!

I play in our club's seniors comps most weeks and they are nothing like as slow as these guys. Rounds rarely take more than 4 hours. Incidentally the 'society' groups seemed to be arranged in three-balls, so they shouldn't really have been that slow!

My 3 ball medal round on Sat took exactly 4 hours - and that included 10-15minutes down to me for losing a ball on two holes and having to go back to put another ball in play as I hadn't played provisionals in either instance. We played at a good pace - not rushing - not loitering. 3hrs45mins would have been about right. 3hrs15mins would have been rushed.

Oh look another slow play thread. Why anyone complains about playing golf and being outside enjoying the fresh air and company is beyond me.

5 hrs doing something I love! Man alive, whatever next?!
Golf is best played in daylight and in reasonably warm conditions. It was getting quite cold and dark by the time the last group in our competition came in!

Agreed, but sometimes it isn't and the fact is you're still playing golf. I've played in rounds that have taken 3 hours and rounds that have taken 6. That's just the way it is sometimes, but I'm still enjoying the company and enjoying playing golf.

Does that make me a ferret? I come after the rabbits.

This. Also sometimes you have places to be. I have to balance golf with a young family and a wife with bipolar. As a result I rarely get the chance to play a full round as I need to be back at home looking after them. If you're then spending 15 minutes a hole standing at the tee box waiting for slow players (who could be going quicker or letting you through) it's pretty frustrating. I'd rather be playing than standing around.

Actually we probably will need a new name for players who are worse than 28 handicap, when the new CONGU rules allowing mens' handicaps up to 36 come into force next year! :mmm:

Any suggestions folks? As the creatures seem to get smaller as you go up the handicap range, can I suggest 'Hamsters'. :)

Oh god does that mean my handicap's going to get worse? Ouch.

I suppose its all a question of what you think is a slow round or not.

We play on a sat morning usually as two 4balls, 3 guys reg play in front of us and last sat they tee'd off a good 20 mins before us. we caught them by the 3rd hole, we were playing better ball and all putted and finished those holes. we always make a gib them about slow play. when we got into the club house one of them says " i bet you guys were impressed how quickly we played today, no way we held you up"

didn't realize we were waiting on every shot for 15 holes.

IT is odd what some peoples take of slow play is. Played with a guy about three weeks ago for the first time. He said we were a bit slow.. We played a four ball in just under four hours.
However he plays with his own buggy, as soon as he has hit his shot he is gone. Now its ok when you have bladdered your drive 250 yd which he did quite regular. But he's sat at his ball for 2-5 mins so he knows which club to use. As soon as it's his turn, bang and gone. Some tees he's sat there a minute waiting for us to get there. coz he's driving and were walking.
edit to say that probably won't play with him again because his ideal tee off time is about 07.00am. That for me is still "cuddle time".

Evidence we need to move away from 18 hole golf, 9,12 or 14 holes?

Who has time for 18 holes? Certainly not the majority of the golfing population. Cut the time, grow the numbers.

In this instance, the issue sounds to me to be slow walking, overly long routines and being over ambitious with their distances...

Rubbish, why would you want to play half a round? and twice as many people on the course is only going to make it worse

i can play a medal at my club or as a 4 ball in just over 3 hours
