Ryder Cup 2025 - All matters

I think it might be best for everyone if Luke called it a day now.
If he does it again and it goes wrong it could tarnish a fantastic reputation and would mean a new captain for an away Ryder cup.
I like the idea of Molinari personally
Agree with this totally. As much as anything, I see it as an honour to be captain, a thank you almost. It should be shared around senior golfers, they should 'get their turn'. I'd personally prefer a one go only situation, whatever the result, but maybe that is a bit out of step now.

I think if you win your home one you should be allowed to have a go at winning away as well.
One thing I would do is cut the number of vice captains to 4.
We seemed to have more assistants than players this year.

Feels like it will be a missed opportunity if they can’t find an Irish Captain next year. If they can’t I’d go for Jimenez he’s always entertaining.

Also Garcia paid his fines so presumably could be welcomed back, would be a good pick for 4 years time.

And could the outgoing captain agree to be vice, or at least on the team on the event after his last?

I think it should be one of the players who have played in the last two events personally, subject to retirement from play.

Rose has to be the first choice.
But you wouldn't back against him still playing in the team in two years' time would you?

Personally I think the favourite must be Francisco Molinari. Vice-captain this time, great Ryder Cup history, and unlikely to play his way back into the playing team at this stage.

I do think it'll be shame if the LIV defectors don't have a path back to captaincy. I never thought I'd see a world where Poulter wasn't captain someday, or Westwood.

They handed over to the organisers to sell tickets, police presence was strong, course was well laid out etc etc.

What can anyone do in respect of the type of attendee?

Not the courses fault.
Nobody stepped in when things started getting nasty.
No condemnation or public announcements
Very little support from Course stewards, did anyone else notice the almost complete lack of 'Quiet Please' paddle signs.
They could have done an awful lot to ease the situation but that would probably be viewed as 'unpatriotic'.

Mind you as it was NY the should probably had some paddles saying 'Shut up you M :whistle::whistle:>>S'

I still don't think the course had the 'final say', but the comment was all about flogging beer, which has passed now as a daft thing to say.

I’m not sure the US have a strong candidate though?

Who would you choose if you were them?
The only strong candidate is Tiger, IMO. I have to say I like the idea of Horschel, even though he's never played a Team event, what about bringing Stricker back and using him as a base to build, maybe start to bring the likes of Spieth on board as VC in prep for Captaincy?

They could do a lot worse than bring Stricker back in, since they won with a record score in 2021. That was some achievement.

Looking back on that one - can anyone remember why USA got 6 picks and we only got 3?? Seems odd to hamstring ourselves in that way. I can't remember what the reason was.

Didn't Europe also extensively look at the data when making decisions for their team?

Can the issue more generally be explained by more cultural issues? Do Americans, in social golf, generally grow up playing a lot of match play, particularly 4BBB? I didn't think they did. Is is ingrained into them what it feels like to play golf with a partner. 4BBB is a very common game for us. Anytime we are in a 4 ball, we seem to always play 4BBB rather than just solely keep our own scores. So, it just becomes second nature, where we know what it feels like to play with a partner, how to support our partner, how to use their support to helps us, etc?

I may be wrong, maybe Americans play it just as much as we do. However, I feel that they excel when they have control of everything. They are on their own, and the can revel in the success when they do well. They just seem much more uncomfortable when they are part of a double act. Is it just a coincicdence that two of the greatest golfers we have seen, Woods and Scheffler, seem to have a much poorer record when they are in a team compared to their own individual success.
Maybe WHS and putting GP cards in has made them solo golfers .

Just a thought.

This is individual golf and losing the habit of 4bbb.
They have had this longer than us.

Each side determined their own qualification process...there were times we only had 2 picks....
I think it's going to stay y and 6 for a while now....

Yeah I remember there being less picks than now, but I misremembered this one and thought the two sides always had the same number of picks - since that would make sense. More picks is definitely better I think (although this year it would've made no difference to the team).

I think what the European team achieved was massive.
Winning the Ryder Cup in New York against all the ''distractions'' was just awesome and a huge accomplishment.
And to recognise the achievement, I'd like the team to be able to keep the Cup for an extra 2 years. Postpone 2027 until 2029.
Just reward.
I won't hold my breath though

Think the European Tour were having a stab at encouraging the better players to spend more time away from the PGAT - but later realised that horse had bolted and winning the RC is more important to them financially.
