Ryder Cup 2025 - All matters

We know Americans are perceived as being a bit thick, but they really haven't worked out that the ones they abused the most kept responding with worldie shots and birdies. 😂
You see, that percentage thing that kept appearing was sponsored by a company, but I didnt realise when they said IQ they werent talking about the American fans over the last 2 days....

The % thing has been only accurate after the event or match up until then it has been pretty much off

Suspect can trace the 1st step change in behaviour back to Kaiwah, and it's been becoming progressively worse since. Realistically need to acknowledge it isn't just a US problem, even if they seem to keep notching up a level. Bethpage is another step change in the wrong direction.
No matter how good Irish golf fans typically there will already be individuals across the continent having seen the last 2 days and thinking how they can 'out do' or 'gain revenge'. Feel it is a race to the bottom unfortunately. Segregated supporters could be where's it heading.

I marginally disagree here. Burns and Spaun are World Class, as is Young. Lowry surely not good enough next time, Mc|Ilroy a bit older, and Rose probably non playing Captain. I would watch the form over the next couple of years before investing anything in bets.
Plus unless something is sorted, Rahm & Hatton may be ineligible 😵‍💫

Have to say the only time there is any significant issues it’s always in the US - it’s very much good natured in Europe with it more about supporting the Europeans than being abusive to the US

I think a good number of people and organisations (a heck of a lot more, exponentially so, since the rise of internet companies & podcasters who make a living out of golf controversy) drum up the hype of the Ryder Cup in advance…for their own reasons

AFAIK the controversy, hype and rancour at Ryder Cups has got so much worse since Kiawah…drunk and rowdy fans is the natural consequence…and having police on the 18th green is surely the natural end point.

Surely nothing surpasses the travesty of Brookline tho..one of the worst things in sportsmanship in any sport

Brookline took it to another level. Relatives of European players abused & spat at. There’s enough state troopers there. Any abuse, haul the spectator away. Announce it beforehand then, noisily follow through on it. The idiots will soon get the message.

Alcohol ban might help .
But the sponsors might not like it.

People are forgetting the absolute money fest this is. It generates, millions, no one is stopping this cash machine. Even at a simple level my son was at the Tuesday practice session. He said the merchandise tent was enormous, way bigger than for an open or equivalent. Pricing was high yet people were walking out with serious bag fulls of gear (perhaps now about to go onto eBay cheaply 🤣). No one is turning this river of cash off or slowing the flow.

Next US venue is in Minnesota. Is that a calmer place than NY?

There not just from New York though.
They must come from all over the US.

We tend to follow what the US does so hoping it won’t happen here.

I'd like to think that it would be self policed over here, Europe generally. I suspect a number of local fans genuinely don't see it as an issue, can't see the problem (NY seems to revel in that sort of reputation). Hopefully enough over here would tell people to shut up before it got to the stage of yesterday. Perhaps I'm naive though 🤷

I do think there’s a significant difference between the galleries here and those in the US. Even Billy Horschel has commented previously that British galleries, and probably by extension those across Europe, tend largely to be knowledgable golf fans. The same quite clearly cannot be said of the States - I think someone here said a day or so ago they are predominantly sports and beer fans, and I would suggest they cannot differentiate between ice hockey, gridiron and golf. They simply don’t get etiquette.

I’m not sure we will ever see European galleries stoop to what has been seen this week. If they were going to do that it would have long since happened. I just get the impression that, by and large, we would prefer to be seen to be rising above such moronic behaviour.
