Ryder Cup 2025 - All matters

Just seen Bradley on SSN defending the fans as “passionate” and claiming Rome was “pretty violent”.

The guy is a clown.
As he said " I wasn't in Rome but I heard things were violent "
I was in Rome Tue-Sun and I didn't see any violence. I heard banter between fans that was good natured and yes there were a few lads well oiled but violent? Never.
One thing I didn't hear was shouting, jeering and despicable personal insults directed at players before, during and after their shots.
Some American fans behaviour has been appalling. And if they truly understood the etiquette of golf, and I'm not talking about changing your shoes in the car park, I'm talking about respect and treating your opponent with a common courtesy they should hang their heads in shame.

I sincerely hope none of them were wearing ankle length socks and shorts.
I know that occasionally the behaviors were criticized but surely they didn't sink that low.

Didn’t look on here at all last night, but there’s been 25 pages of chat since I last looked in.

Can’t remember a better night watching the golf on the TV. US fans have gone too far and have added extra motivation to the Europeans. They are a true team and it’s brought them closer together.

Grim reading. Rory definitely looked to be affected by it yesterday, which is no surprise.

It’s really disappointing that ‘the authorities’ didn’t do more to prevent it in the first place, and then act when it started to get like this. God I hope he shoves it up them today.

The issue is that this is no longer a sporting event. It has become a platform for the most raucous, offensive and objectionable behaviour I have ever heard at a golf course, with authorities who, far from trying to stem the rising tide of abuse, seem to simply ignore, or even encourage it. If there is any truth in the observation that event volunteers were engaging in the abuse then the problem is far worse than any of us thought yesterday evening.

Bethpage has always oddly seemed to pride itself on being a hostile venue. But there is an absolute world of difference between hostility and the sort of vile personal abuse McIlroy and Lowry had to endure. It seems the morons who think they are supporting their team have just been given free rein to behave precisely as they want with total impunity. What next? A “fan” physically assaulting a player? It’s the only thing we haven’t witnessed this week.

Aside from the players, caddies, backroom staff and all their families being subjected to it, the viewing public should not have to sit in front of their televisions and watch a sporting spectacle, the broadcaster having muted the crowd noise. When it’s so bad that has to be the decision, it must be just unbearable first hand.

I thought more than once yesterday that this week has the potential to cast doubt over future Ryder Cups. This article confirms my view.

He certainly did, and that's with Shane by his side.
Today he goes out alone.
His caddy has a huge job today, although I'm sure there will be plenty of security with that match.

I think I saw Fleetwood with his young son last night as he left.

If players like McIlroy have family, friends and their young children at the event, it just makes the abuse even more appalling.

Sadly this was no surprise to me either. Mix in the usual US jingoism with a rowdy NY crowd and throw in Trump, the politics of Trump and an area of NYC that voted heavily for him, and you have an explosive mixture.

The massive negativity towards Europe has been fuel for the fire, but has only damaged the US team because they're not oblivious to what's been said about people they know and play against each week, and its not something you can ignore.

Perhaps more importantly it just gives a negative vibe to play in, especially when you're being dog walked off the course by the other team.

I've been over to Reddit and (being more left leaning) they're almost to a poster totally embarrassed at what's going on and are full of praise for the European team. Seen quite a few posters hoping Europe continue the hammering.

Unfortunately it is going to overshadow what is probably our best ever Ryder cup performance.
It should be all about what a fantastic job all the team have done but it will be remembered by the fans behaviour.
Rosewood were 12 birdies in 15 holes. Insane golf. 😱

I’d also say that it’s been a bit of self
fulfilling prophecy the amount of chat about this crowd from journalists and even the European team probably didn’t help either

They went way over the line though

Agreed and the idiots know this. Who isn't going to follow their son, dad, husband, mate around the course on such a massive event. They suffered too I'd expect.

Entry tickets are not cheap, so this isn't a pre-organised free gathering of idiots with a plan, it just demonstrates how the American public have evolved, sadly.

What I would have hoped is for Rory (sure others) could have found a way not to respond, as that helps the media present as six of one, half a dozen of the other.

I also hope some of the coverage/discussion of the behavior has filtered back and we may see a cracking final days golf.

Ridiculous.
They are just very bad losers who have had too much to drink, what's it got to do with left vs right?
Politics do not belong on this thread, in my opinion, as I don't this has anything to do with politics.
