Ryder Cup 2025 - All matters

Sticking with the trend of recent events, the US team have much sharper outfits. Since the horror show of Brookline 99, the US have upped their game, smart Ralph Lauren "apparel" and matching wives. The USA logo and flag on the Saturday shirt makes a bold statement and is sure to fire up the home crowd.

Europe going with a retro 1970's catalogue look. Bland pastels and a muted brown effort on Saturday depict a team looking to go under the radar. Headline writers will have a field day if the quality of the golf matches the :poop: colour of the shirt. The recent tradition of Sunday white, an homage to Seve, is under-stated and whispers "my golf will do the talking".

Disagree with you here. The US outfits are very samey, not sure why they've gone predominantly navy on all three days. I like how Europe have gone for a consistent design but with different colour schemes.

I also think the two teams should really co-ordinate their designs, it really bugs me when both sides are wearing a similar colour scheme on the same day. Like here on Sunday there's a lot of white going on. US should swap their Saturday kit to Sunday and then we'll be grand.

Not much that can be done with red white and blue at the end of the day so the USA shirts always seem the same

Europe at least throw in a load of other colours over the years

Always remember the baby blue shirts from the 80’s

A solid yellow is always good

There's no law that you have to use your flag colours. And even then they could have red one day, white one day, blue one day. Mix it up a little bit.

I thought that Red was the US colour and Blue for Europe.
That’s the way Sky always present it anyway.

Yeah - my club that is doing a friendly 'Ryder Cup' comp on Friday has instructed people to wear red if they get drawn on the US side and blue for Europe.

(This does pose a problem if I'm drawn US as I don't own any red polos - as is well-documented on here and the older members will be familiar with. 😁 Hopefully pink or orange is acceptable.)

This is the US - they bleed red white and blue - use a different colour and they lose them the captain will be sent down for being unpatriotic 😂

Would you not buy a red shirt?
Get down the charity shop and get the most dirty old washed out one you can and really make a statement.

Although to some members that seems preferable to having a nice new shirt that’s not quite red.

P.S whatever you wear make sure you tuck it in 😂

Come on you need to buy a red polo:

same logo different budget:

I have read that it’s foursomes in the morning and fourballs in the afternoon.
Is it the choice of the home captain which you play in the morning and Is there an advantage in choosing one over the other?

Yeah I read same, home captain gets to pick and I understand US are often strong in foursomes so go with that to build lead/momentum

Captain does decide and they normally go with what they see as their strongest

There as always been a belief that Europe are better in foursomes but I think stats don’t back that

I read or watched something recently, I think it was Paul McGinley, saying that one of the best tactics Luke Donald used in Rome was changing to foursomes first. He’d looked at our previous performances in both formats and apparently we were stronger in foursomes. But then I’ve also read that the US are stronger in that format and obviously they’ve gone with it first. Maybe it’s just referencing home points won, because they can’t both win more points than the other in the same format!

Must admit, I always assumed we were better in foursomes, going back to the old ‘team first’ mentality we have compared to the US being a team of individuals, and people often talk about Phil sticking tiger in the 💩 multiple times. But it appears not.

I just looked at the last six Ryders:

Year4somes 1st or 2ndSat scoreSun score
2023 (h)1st4-03-1
2021 (a)1st1-31-3
2018 (h)2nd4-02-2
2016 (a)1st0-42.5-1.5
2014 (h)2nd3.5-0.53.5-0.5
2012 (a)1st2-21-3

Typical the yanks have always picked the foursomes first. We normally go four-balls first, but we deviated from that last time. I always thought, as you say, that Europe were considered better in the foursomes - but then it wouldn't make sense for USA to put them first every time would it? You'd want your strongest one first to get an early lead?

The total score of the above is 27.5-20.5 to Europe, so that would back up the theory that we're better at foursomes than them. Again, I'm confused as to why they'd want to put foursomes first in that case.

Looks like it was earlier Ryder Cups where the US were better at Foursomes but recent events have seen the balance shift ( apart from from 2021 and 2016 )
