Russell Knox

Phil wake up, they are all professional golfers & everyone of them have had a better year than Westwood of which you can't disagree. So you like Westwood but that doesn't earn him a place in the RC.

Have a look back through RC teams and check out how many players that get picked by the captain despite not having better years than some others

Faldo
Seve
Harrington
Monty

All in the teams not just because of how they have performed through the year but because of what else they bring to the team - it's not just about single player performances throughout the year and if you know your RC history then you will see that, but after your statement of Westwoods "poor" previous RC form being clearly false then I guess you would struggle to understand the way the European team works

I think Knox has to go, been saying it for weeks and Sunday jsut cemented his place in my team at least.

With the probable qualification of so many rookies, I agree with the majority who have said Kaymer and Westwood should get a pick. That experience will be invaluable when teaming them up with a rookie.

Westwood with the likes of Fitzpatrick, do the job he done with Donaldson at Gleneagles, Colsaerts at Medinah.

Westwood has to go imo.

Good argument for Westwood there but he's just too steady for me, slow death by par golf is his current speciality which doesn't cut it in RC matches.

Can't believe I'm reading this, Westwood!

Without any doubt I'd like to see him with a back room job but geeezo that guy couldn't win a club medal this year

On saying that, they really need to set a limit for having Vice Captain's ... 15 max is enough.

I would give Westwood a pick this year due to the need to get some experience into the team but I don't think you can really compare him to those legends of the game! Actually, Harrington might be a better pick than Westwood....

Make the case for someone else then? His form is as good as any other contender despite being average

Only comparing him to them in terms of RC and the impact they all make in the team - Westwood I believe will become the top point scorer if he gets a point - his RC record is up there with those players.

In fairness, he seems in better form than before glen eagles and he did ok there. I'd probably give him a pick considering the makeup of the team this year but I think you're wildly optimistic to say he'd be our top performer.

Top Performer ?

What I meant was if he gets a point he becomes Europe all time leading points scorer I believe ( just checked and it's four he needs ) - but his record in the Ryder Cup puts him alongside those legends and in RC terms he will be one of the best there has been

I have no doubt that he will still be in the team in France as well

France. Now your on drugs if he gets a pi k this year it will be his last.

I like the 'legend' part and even Harrington getting a mention but RC or not, I've no time for a guy that drops his wife for a pert pair ;)

Oh right. I thought you meant he'd be the top point scorer this year, not of all time!

I guess he might be in the team in France, but he'll need a captain's pick again if he is!

I can see Westwood playing 4 times and gaining 2 points maybe 2 and a half

And for France I can see him gaining enough points in Europe as he has moved back fully

One person who hasn't been mentioned is Francesco Molinari who has been in decent form all year in the US. He has the benefit of being very straight off the tee and a great iron player so ideal for foresomes. Also not a rookie.

I think Knox and Kymer should be picked and either Westwood or Molinari for the last place.

Sadly Shane Lowery is not in great from and as they fould last time when picking Poulter the RC is not a place to try to get back on track.

Hadn't registered with me really so I've had a look

94th in fedex cup standings
3 top 10s from 17 starts
In those he was 9,7 and 6 shots off the winning score

No thanks imo

I'd be surprised to see Westwood playing the RC in France and think there will be too many younger players, with experience in majors, WGC's etc that will be in the side plus the likes of McIlroy etc. Can't see him getting a pick either. For me he'd have to be a vice captain though with that experience.

I do fear that even if he gets picked this time it may be one RC too far and for me he'll maybe get a point. Definitely don't see him as someone with a good chance of getting a singles point (draw dependent of course). The problem is there isn't a raft of players that spring to mind for the picks

Nobody has really mentioned kjeldson... I couldn't tell you stats and I'm too lazy to look but this year he's always seemed there or thereabouts. Plus he has won hasn't he!!!

Thoughts?
