I agree Knox should be picked.

Westwood is certainly going. The fact he wasn't made a captains choice and him and Clarke are best buds means he's playing 100%

think I would take a punt on Lowry over Kaymer.
 
The Main thing Darren will be wondering is if he gives Shane a pick will there be enough Guinness to go around for the both of them to celibate the win

There is a risk (& hope it doesn't happen) that Rory becomes the Tiger of European team this time. I.e. Put in for all the key matches and plays poorly.

Think DC should go with form, so Knox should go.

Westwood is very poor at the moment & has done nothing to earn a place in the team and his recent form in RC has been poor. There is a good group of VC with experience to look after the rookies so the last thing the playing squad need is an out of form player in the squad.

Very poor ? Really ? Think he has missed one cut this year I believe ( back in April ) and played solid in the majors bar the US PGA

And poor in RC ? Has a 50% record in the last two RC and better before than that

He isn't "out of form"

So far there is going to be 5 maybe 6 rookies in the team - the VC can't play alongside the the rookies and that's where someone like Westwood will come into it. He will get one of the picks - he is a solid player to be in a pair in either foursomes of fourballs

I think it's a good point. Lowry is in and out and Westwood has the experience and Kaymer did hold his nerve last time in the US. That leaves one and Knox seems to tick all the boxes

Westwood has to go. Alex Noren should be considered but do think it's Kaymer, Westwood & Lowry or Knox.

A number of the team are out of form at the moment Fitzpatrick has struggled recently (missed 7 of 12 cuts since the masters), Sullivan hardly lit it up, and even Bello has struggled to live up to his early season form
 
And that's the problem with such a long qualifying period.
Easily possible to have qualification sewn up by Jan/Feb - plenty of time to lose form.
 
I would have preferred if Knox had automatically qualified, rather than being a captain's pick.
I think Steven Gallagher suffered because of that, the pairings didn't help him either ,IMHO.
 
The problem with Westwood is how often does he go proper low and make tons of birdies? Lowest round on the US tour this year is a 67 and the best result outside his 2nd at the masters is a 22nd

Phil wake up, they are all professional golfers & everyone of them have had a better year than Westwood of which you can't disagree. So you like Westwood but that doesn't earn him a place in the RC.

Maybe do some research before calling someone out. Outside of the US open, Lowry has not had a top 10 since Feb. He's had 6 missed cuts since the masters.

Westwood hasn't missed a cut since the masters and has had 3 top 10s. Add that to his RC pedigree and he's a no brainer.

So it's not 'Phil wake up' it's 'Hank, do some research'

The Ryder cup brings a completely different type of pressure , some can handle it but others can't.

Everyone of them clearly hasn't had a better year than Westwood, I read your post. Lowry has had a terrible year compared to Westwood.

I just used Lowry as an example.

Westwood is arguably in better form than most of the European team!!
