Scotland France was a good watch with some quality rugby. Wales England was a turgid blend of poor quality rugby imo.

At least this world cup my expectations are very low!

Oh and agree about "use it" plus something has to radically change with the scrum as it is so rare to get a decent one and so much time setting and resetting and then a lottery as to whom the referee penalises.

England have been gifted a chance to do well in this World Cup with their draw. A semi final is beckoning before they run into any one half decent. If they don’t get that far then they are blooming useless.

It doesn't matter the size of the gift if the team isn't functioning. Sport is often cyclical, this is England's dip. The world cup is probably a year or so too early for Borthwick.

the squad is set. They have time to gel and work on plans with proper focus over the next 5 weeks. They have no excuse in my eyes to stiff this “gift” up.

Yeah that is just a joke. In line with a few other recent rulings, the rugby aithorities doing what they can to ensure that all of the big names are at the world cup.

In Farrells case, you could not apply leniancy for previous good behaviour or as a first offence, he has years of form when it comes to tackle technique, and so a guilty finding would have put him out of the group stages at least (assuming england get out of the group which is no guarantee after the last 2 weeks)

Agree, pretty much all fo the rulings that have related to players important to the world cup have resulted in bans that coincidently stopped just before or just into the tournament.

In this case the debate what whehter he would miss some or all of the group matches and need replacing and very few suggested the card would be rescinded.

Also look at Sexton's ban for abusing the match officials. Most look at 10 weeks as a starting point for the offence, he got 3 matches.

World rugby do like to focus in one thing to crack down on before the tournament. In the past this has been the neck roll or truck and trailer at rucks. Now the message is clear more shoulders to the face please!

Think we also need to talk about Taine Basham here. He could’ve seriously hurt Farrell’s shoulder with his cheekbone. And Farrell’s shoulder’s been targeted over the years.

As an Englishman, this sucks. He should be serving a 10 game ban, pure and simple.
I just hope (probably no chance) that Borthwick decides to drop him altogether, as Farrell is a liabililty and every team now has his mark.
