:rolleyes: Well i look forward to playing golf all week and play on friday afternoons with a couple of friends and play well, then comes the comp on sundays and it all goes pete tong !
score 12 on the front nine followed by 19 on the back nine playing off 12 .
Think i managed to hit about 2 drives and putting was dire !, so why the big change ??

yesterday 14points front nine follwed by 4 points from the next 6 before retiring, now that's RUBBISH

then today 4 points from 5 holes before giving up on the 6th fairway for an early bath

Know how you feel. 10 points out 13 back. Didnt even bother handing in the card. Ive got to get this new grip bedded in before next week. I found more hedges off the tee today than fairways.

You naughty boy!

All cards, good or bad, should be handed in (CONGU says so). It can give those processing the cards a headache as they don't know you couldn't be bothered to hand it in and could be wondering if they had mislaid it.

TUT....TUT.....TUT.......
Hang your head in shame....
U gota hand the card in regardless of how bad it was
At our place, if u enter comp and dont record score, your name goes on results sheet as doing this, so all can see, a couple of these and H/Cap Sec will have a quiet word, and maybe BAN you from next Comp

I know I know. Nearly walked off after 9 but somehow convinced myself Im better than that. I got DQ'd and no card returned next to my name. Did make the Pro aware I wasnt returning my card as he deals with the cards etc.

A mate of mine at the club had three heart attacks last week and is still in a coma. Did I care how I played, did I ....k Come on guys it's just a game of golf enjoy it for what it is.

Well said. Hopefully he makes a quick and full recovery mate.

Why would you walk off the course after 5 holes, I just don't understand that. You would not have walked off if you scored 3,2,1,3,2,1,3,2,1 and so on, so why couldn't you score 3,2,3,2,3,2 from the sixth hole to make up for the poor start. You just never know how you are going to score in golf. You can start well and finish poorly or start poorly and finish like a train.

I have only walked off once in all the time I have played and that was due to an injury. Enjoy yourself on the course, even if you you are not playing well. We are not relying on it to pay the bills and I have yet to see golf balls falling from on high, so they ain't playing golf in heaven. You get one chance at this life so enjoy.

I'd never walk off a course ina competition if I was playing badly. It just isn't the right thing to do. It is annoying and frustrating but so what if you come last? Someone has to. I've done it a few times and just use the sight of my name at the bottom as motivation to up my game next time out.

In answer to the OP question I'm guessing it simply comes down to being relaxed with your mates and then trying way too hard to force a score once you have a card in your hand. Swing easily and don't try too hard

Played in the Algarve a few years ago with some mates, was really looking forward to playing Rio Formosa at Quinta do Lago. Had got myself so worked up about playing there I came out of the traps like a slug! I had 3 points after 5 holes. 1 point, blob, blob, 2 points, blob. I was distraught. Beautiful course, beautiful weather, great company. I was cheesed right off and more or less gave up. Scored 30 points on the remaining 13 holes and came 2nd on the day. It's not very often I turn it around.
